Dental Work Overseas

Has anyone ever had dental work done overseas? For example those companies that have clinics in London and Budapest. I need to get work done and really cannot afford it in the UK and it's not covered on the NHS.

One of my friends had work done in Budapest. Great results and, apparently, the dentist was so gorgeous she'd have sat there with her mouth open anyway.

I think she had to have two trips. I can find out more if you'd like me to?

Belle - that would be fabulous. There are lots of companies out there but some with personal (well MN personal) recommendations would be good. Thanks

I'm interested too.

I had a quote for dental work and it was... £11,000 !!!!!!!!!

To my credit I just sat there and didn't say a word to the dentist. I just mumbled thanks, I'll think about it, and ran out of the dentist's thinking I'd rather have a set of wooden choppers than re-mortgage the house.

I looked into it. If you google it you'll find lots of companies. THere are helplines where they tell you if it's worth it. I needed an implant and it wasnt worth it.

I have looked into it but do not know anyone personally who has had it done so am after some MN recommendations. I need an implant and a band thing and a crown or two.

My friend had dental work done in Turkey. Wasn't planned but she depserately needed something done whilst on holiday there. She said it was absolutely fantastic . I can ask her for the clinic name if you'd like, she said there were people there who had travelled to just get dental work done as it was so good and much much cheaper.
She would def recommend it.

I have had implants, crowns, orthodontia etc.

I did incidentally have them done overseas, but was living there at the time.

I can't imagine having complicated work done in just a few appointments, no matter how coordinated the specialists.

For an implant, you need a couple of appointments beforehand, the actual day of the surgery, then an appt to get your stitches out, then a few monitoring appts.

A crown is at least two appts, without any followup.

If you are talking about having implants, you already have missing teeth, so ideally need to have some orthodontia as well. I don't see how you can have this by distance dentistry.

What you need is a team of specialists who all work together.

Personally I wouldn't have work done overseas unless you are living there. Follow up appts and emergencys would be problematic.
OTOH, I can recommend a dentist in Bangkok who virtually rebuilt my dh's teeth.

I live in Budapest and have often seen people at the airport who have come here for dental treatment. In fact my dentist here used to work for a company that brought people over. I think he used to fly to Dublin twice a month and see people there for initial consultation and then book them in here for the actual work. I suppose that if they get 6 or 8 people at a time they can schedule all the work together over a couple of days.

So people do have it done. Maybe doing it this way they do follow up appointments back in UK/Ireland and you would only need to come back if there was an issue.

I don't have teeth missing yet but the fab dentist in York who decided to stuff up my crown has left me with a tooth that will one day need to come out. I want the implant it is not medically necessary but who really wants a gaping hole in the gums??

I know with the overseas traetment you have the initial things done in London then spend a week or so in the country where you have it done.
