I had MRSA in hospital and was treated with a drug called vancomycin which worked eventually.

It depends on the type of infection. If he's got it in the blood then it is treated with strong antibiotics. If it's in the wound, he may well need a special wash to use. MRSA sounds really scary because it gets reported so viciously in the press. Obviously any infection in a post-op pt is concerning, but MRSA can be managed effectively. His GP or consultant at the hospital should be able to provide you with specific advice, don't be afraid to ask them.

thanks , all happening so fast one day he was at doc as had sore on foot thought to be infected , then next dat it was taken off along with part of his foot ...

he has a district nurse coming in to clean and bandage it , but today went to clinic and they wernt to happy with it at all ...

have to wait and see what test results come back , but in the mean time they put him on a antibiotic called doxycline and i have tooked it up and is for things like gum infections, clamidia no mention of MRSA ?

here is a link to help reasure you that doxycycline is used for MRSA virtually as drug of first choice

choclab · 03/02/2010 07:44

Thank you alaypaly, for that, has reasured me .

I must have got wrong link before of maybe i spelt wrong .
As i understand it theres a wide range of antibiotics immune to MRSA , so i hope this is going to work ..
My Dad has been put on a 6 week course at the moment starting yesterday , will wait now for results of bone xray, blood tests and swab .

Nurse not coming till friday to re dress wound so will see .

There was hesitation weather to re-admit him to hospital again ,i guess they will see what happens in the next few days .

if it doesnt sort it out they should take him back in and debride the whole area to remove the infected tissue. I do hope its not in the bone

choclab · 03/02/2010 10:51
