Ibuprofen in pregnancy

One of my wisdom teeth has flared up again - from the degree of pain I think it's an infection, so will try to get in at the dentist ASAP tomorrow to get antibiotics. This has happened several times before, I know the only cure is to have the damned thing out, which I have been avoiding, and I'm certainly not having it out while pregnant. Anyway it's been just so painful today and paracetamol just ain't touching it. I found out online that while paracetamol is the first choice of analgesic in pregnancy, if you need something to reduce swelling, ibuprofen can be taken in the second trimester, so long as it's not taken on a regular basis. I'm 15 weeks today. I phoned NHS direct who weren't able to say it was OK to take, and I went to a pharmacist who also couldn't say it was OK. They all say you need a GP or midwife to say it's OK. But I decided to trust my own judgement - I took one ibuprofen maybe three hours ago now, and it has been soooo much more bearable since then. Can anyone reassure me that this is OK? I'll only take it again if it gets unbearable again, and I wouldn't take it on a regular basis. It won't have done any harm will it?

Why not have it out now? Is it not just a local injection and then a tug and then it's done with?

If it were me I'd reach for the ibuprofen without hesitation... but I'd also get the damn thing yanked out asap, too, pregnant or not.

Because I'm a wimp? I'm so bloody scared of having a wisdom tooth out, I really should have had it done before planning a pregnancy, I knew that at the time. The trouble is it's only half erupted so they'd need to cut through a lot of gum, plus it's on the lower jaw which I believe is nastier than the upper jaw. Have heard so many horror stories! I suppose I should talk to my dentist about it.

No you can't take inbuprofen in pregnancy, especially in the 3rd trimester as if can close a duct in the heart that shouldn't close untill birth.

I don't think it's dangerous earlier in pregnancy but your still advised not to take it.

Try cocodamol. Hope it feels better soon

Oh dear, sorry I wasn't very reassuring was I

The heart thing really is only towards the end of pregnancy and as your only 15 weeks im sure it'll be fine
