Umm... during the last week I have had extreme pain from a fissure. I have been applying Anusol externally and taking Lactulose.

Apparently it isn't called "Anus-sol", but "Ann-you-sol" after the pharmacist in Sainsbury's made me repeat my request four times in ever-increasing volume

Anyway, the pain is a lot better but the blood loss is worse.

I don't want to show my GP and I certainly don't want an examination without full sedation, FFS I can't even apply the numbing cream to the affected area even though the nozzle is tiny, so I won't be able to cope with assault with a rubber-clad digit

I don't even have anything to do with bumsex. This is very unfair!

pollywollydoodle · 30/01/2010 20:15

you know you have to go to gp ...gp/hospital can sedate if neccessary to examine you

ps gp won't assume bumsex

pps at least you haven't treated yourself with up the bum garlic here

I had to do this and I'm in love with my GP

it was depressing

MiladyDeWinter · 30/01/2010 20:24

Thank you littledawley I appreciate that comment. polly can they? That is good to know.

I read the original garlic bum thread and was roffling at the poor toddlers being sniffed and scooped up for unnecessary nappy changes. The follow-up is terrific, thank you!

Riven. Oh that is grim morningpaper, poor you

Can the nurse do it? The GP is well-meaning but has refused to take me seriously for years about DS who is now being assessed for ASD by SALT, paed and development team.

I really don't want to expose my soft underbelly atm.

The anusol isn't going to be terribly effective on the outside so going the the doctor is necessary. Is there only one doctor at your practice? If you don't like him/her I am not sure that the nurse would be able to refer you to a consultant. Do they have these powers now? [lived out of the UK for ages emoticon]. Good luck, now bend over.

Regardless of what your doctor thinks of you, if you are in pain and seeing blood in your faeces (I'm guessing) then you have to be taken seriously. If you've got a problem with your doctor ask for a second opinion - you're entitled to that. All kinds of nasty things can happen if you let rectal problems go untreated... 'don't die of embarassment'
