<sigh> I still have MRSA! Is there any positive stories out there?

My GP took swabs, I suppose i should be thankful that its not in my nose or groin, just on my c-section scar!

I have been prescribed cream that I have to apply twice daily for 10 days and yet another course of antibiotics (this will be the 4th lot since end of November when ds2 was born)

Its getting me down now, every time I start feeling more positive and better, i get told its actually not!

Mosschops - is your thread title a pun?

The only thing I can say is that as you know it can be a bugger to get rid of but time and persistence will usually win the day. It's good that you feel better isn't it - better than feeling like crap!

I think it's time for you to use your professional contacts tbh. You need to ring the hospital labs and ask to speak to one of the Consultant Microbiologists about the treatment you've had. This is a time for a lot of ' as a NURSE I just want to talk....', 'and as I work in ICU (that's right isn't it?) I would like to know...' Stop thinking like a patient and think like a nurse - never assume the docs are bang on the button - check with the informed source. They know more about what will act on your bug than anybody and yes they will be recommending the course of treatment - but there's no harm in double checking.

lol I didnt even notice that!!

I have a good contact in infection control who Ive just spoken to who said that my GP is doing the right things, and is over covering me to be on the safe side given what we've been through already.
She also said that 30% of the pop carry it on their skin so not to be too disheartened with the result.
I will be tested again in 3 weeks time.

Its just soul destroying to think youre coming out of it each time and then you realise youre not 100%.

I so want to be 100% by the end of next month, as me and dh have planned a weekend away and I just want us to be normal

Good that you've spoken to your contact - you WILL get there. Regarding feeling better - well it took 9 months to make the baby, it's not unreasonable for it to take a while to recover. You really went through the mill - you wouldn't expect one of your patients who'd been through the same to be bouncing around now would you? You are better, you will get better still.

Thanks northern, I am trying to stay positive but when youve hit the wall so many times its difficult.
I have lost any ability to look at all this logically, at times its hard to believe I have any medical knowledge at all

Hi Mosschops, just wanted to add my tuppence-worth - hang in there! i know exactly how you feel, i've had problems since a c-section more than 2 months ago (felt like i was on road to recovery then told i had a uterine infection, put on horrid antibiotics, now told i may have retained membrane) and im getting increasingly frustrated and upset because i just want some semblance of normality and to enjoy being a mum. V. hard to stay positive but i'm taking each day as it comes and reminding myself what Northern says; 9 months to make a baby, have to give yourself time to recover. You will get there! Hope you've got lots of good support, i'm terrible for brooding about stuff and talking to friends and family helps put everything in perspective. Take care x

mosschops30 · 28/01/2010 18:27

oh ellen I am sorry youve had a rough time. Who said c-section was the easy option eh
It is hard to get back to normal although I am now walking ds1 to school and back every day which is lovely, never thought such little things could mean so much.

What are they doing for you now? and whats a retained membrane? (sorry as a nurse prob should know that).
I think I can cope if nothing else happens, but have another consultant apt next week and am almost dreading it in case he says something else

too right! cant believe there were girls in my ante natal class who wanted one, it's a major op and no mistake. Must be alot harder to recover when you've already got one wee one AND a new bubba. Retained membrane is basically leftovers from the placenta, can be large or small amounts apparently... saw doc today and he thinks if there is any still in there, it's a small amount and he doesnt feel a scan is necessary. Also wanted to put me on more antibiotics to rule out a urine infection this time! Really quite a scattergun approach. Sheesh... I've been on a lot of antibiotics too. You taking some probiotics? Think positive for next week (easier said than done, i know), it doesnt sound like things could get any worse, more like it's one of those things that just drags on but resolves eventually. If you're eating well, getting out and about, that has to help combat infection too? Really hope you're all good for your weekend away, i'm sure you will be x
