High blood pressure

Just wondering if anyone else can realate to my situation.

Im currently 24 weeks preg with my second and the midwife has arranged consultant appointment for me next because of having high blood pressure readings.

With my DD i had high BP towards the end and wasnt constantly sent to the hospital for monitoring. Everytime I was checked at the hospital though, my bp was fine and was fine during the labour.

DH has recently bought my own BP monitor and everytime i do a reading its fine, not high at all.

Anyone else only seem to get high BP at the surgery? Not sure if its the surgery/ midwife or what but it seems really odd. Ive read something about Whitecoat Hypertension- when its high only around drs.

Anyone else any experience of this?

I always have high readings at the doctors and have had 3 24-hour blood pressure monitors (over a period of 20 years) so the docs could see if I had high blood pressure or whether it is white coat hypertension. All the reading on the monitor have always come back fine. I also got closely monitored during pregnancy (one of the 24 hour monitors was used in my first pregnancy)as high blood pressure can be a sign of pre-eclampsia.

They do call it 'white coat syndrome'... anxiety related to being in a surgery or hospital causes the heart-beat to race and BP to skyrocket. It happens to me and what my doctor does is take the reading, then we sit and chat for a bit, then we take another... and repeat. There's always a big difference between the first and the last reading as the initial anxiety goes away.

Talk to your doctor about it as they should be able to come up with a solution. Obviously, high BP can't be ignored in pregnancy.
