About a year ago I had my first gastroscopy/endoscopy during which they found a pre-cancerous polyp in my duodenum. Now this has to come out but two endsocopies later (one of which tried to remove it and failed and the other used ultrasound to analyse it further), I am now booked in for endoscopy no 4 next week.
2 Consultants and a surgeon have discussed my case and although they all agree it will be tricky to remove they think that using an endoscopy will be the least invasive and risky option.
However it does come with some risk - apparently a duodenal polyp unlike colon polyps is a bit like a rug sitting on tissue paper (ie the intestinal wall is very thin) and the risk of perforation is 1:20 rather than the usual 1:3000.
So I was just wondering if anyone had had anything similar done and is there anything i should be wary of. I am going to be heavily sedated with an anaethestist present so hopefully I won't know what's going on and I know from past experience I will have a sore throat for a couple of days. But should I have a bag packed ready in case something goes wrong or should I just work on the basis that it will all be fine?
