Hi there
My DD is 4 next week and about a week ago myself and my partner noticed that 1 of her eyes was turning in. We made an appt with our GP who couldnt see anything wrong. I decided to take her to the opticians to double check (as althoug my GP didnt think she needed referring she thought it was worth keeping the appt with the optician) the results were that she was mildly long sighted in 1 eye.
She was +2 in 1 eye and +1.35 which i know is not bad in comparison with other children.
I am feeling very anxious and upset about this and have lots of questions which i would really apreciate help with from others who have gone through this.
As her eye is turning in does this mean she has a "lazy eye" or a "squint" as the optician refered to and what does this mean ????
Should we go back to the doctors and ask for a referal to the eye clinic to see what if any the other options are ???
Should we consider patching ?? will this help ??? as this has not been mentioned.
Does this mean she will wear glasses for the rest of her life, the optician thinks that it should correct itself but is this realistic ???
Although i am feeling anxious i am bigging up wearing glasses and my DD is getting excited we even had tears as she was really upset she couldnt take her new glasses home !!!!!!
Sorry to babble on but any help would be apreciated .

her eye turning in means she has a squint. A lazy eye is where the eyesight in one eye is poorer than the other. My dd had both i.e. her lazy eye was contibuting to the squint. She had patching treatment but that was to improve the eyesight, not the squint.

As your lo is young she should probably be referred to the orthoptist (normally based at your local hospital). DD has been going to the orthoptist since she was around 18 months (now 6years). She will probably be signed over to the optician soon as she is a bit older but up till now her appointments have been at the hospital.

DD is +6 and +5 btw, if that helps, and will probably always need glasses.
