Whilst at a friends house this afternoon, my dd and her ds went upstairs to play in her ds's bedroom. Her ds came down with blue bits round his mouth and when we asked him what it was he wouldn't answer. We rushed upstairs to find my dd in my friends bedroom and as soon as she saw us she said 'J did it, not me'. Scattered on the floor were my friends contraceptive pills, we worked out that about 3 of them were missing. Dd assures me that she didn't eat any, and there was nothing round her mouth, but I can't be sure. My friend didn't seem too worried - just gave her ds a drink and that was it, but I AM. What do you think I should do? As I say, dd insists she didn't eat any but I can't be sure. Are they dangerous?

I don't think so but if you are worried, why not phone NHS Direct? They should be able to advise. HTH

I would be tempted to call your gp's surgery or NHS direct for further information. At least they can advise what level of hormone they may have consumed and whether that level is dangerous or not - did you manage to get the name of the pill?

Sorry elliott posts crossed.

Iamworried · 12/06/2003 15:55

Unfortuantely not - in such a tiss I didn't think to ask, they were in a red and white box and they were small round and blue. Anyone think they might know?

Prob doesn't make much difference - similar stuff in all of them - main difference is between the progesterone only pills (take every day at the same time) and the combined pills (take 21 days then stop for a week). Your friend would know surely?

I know someone whose dd ate more than 3 pills one day. Doc said not to worry. Obviously it's not a great idea, but they're not poisonous.

However, I would be tempted to call docs / NHS direct anyway.

Thanks for all your advice, have spoken to NHS Direct, they have said that it should not be a problem as the tablets have very low toxicity, and that I should keep an eye on her for the next 24 hours as she may become nauseous. Also, if she has had a lot of them (which I don't think she has) she may experience withdrawl bleeding when the pills wear off, like a period, I hope she doesn't as she is only 3 and wouldn't want her to have to go through that.

Anyway, sounds like it's not too bad - phew!!!
