Infection still there; 4th week of tablets; 3rd type of antibiotic...

Have been ill since Jan 3rd. Dx with pneumonia on left lung that week, spent 3 nights in hospital having IV abs, etc. Been out since a week last Monday.

Been to GP today. Was told I had to when I left the hospital when the two weeks were up. I finished my original meds on Monday but still been tired and my chest has stll felt heavy over the left lung.

GP listened to my chest, etc as he thinks the infection is still there. I have improved lots, but not completely. My temp is still ever so slightly raised and my heart rate still over 100. He can still hear something over the left lung.

So I have a sick note til 1st February and I have another week's worth of antibiotics, a different type again.

Apparently I have been "proper poorly" this time and it will take some time to recover.

I am allowed out a little bit though. He recommends some fresh air, but not if temps drop too much again. And to still take it very easy. But hairdressers, lunch out, coffee with friend - all ok and to be advised

Called in at work when got my prescription to drop off sick notes, so I get paid. Everyone was lovely. Spoke to the head and popped ito clas briefly. Children gave me lots of get well piuctures, etc - they are lovely!

My body will be in shock though - all this water and no alcohol since Jan 1st!!!

So...great January so far!!!

took me nearly 4 months to get over serious pneumonia

alypaly · 21/01/2010 18:42

have they thought of culturing your phlegm rather than keep filling you up with ABx

Keziahhopes · 21/01/2010 22:47

Like alypaly I have taken months to get over pneumonia (I returned straight to work, got worse and probably didn't help myself!)

Culturing your phlegm is great idea - so they can find out what is causing infection and then give directed treatment - that is what I was told to do by a consultant.

I am not coughing a great deal up, never did even at its worse. Sometimes you don't apparently.

I am feeling loads better than when I first had it. Mainly tiredness now - feel like I am about 80! It is like a snapshot of being elderly. My chest feels tight but not painful.

Had xrays, bloods, etc when I was in hospital with it.

Keziahhopes - GP won't sign me back as being fit for work, especially as I work with little children - all those germs they carry could set me back apparently!

I am allowed gentle outings now though so don't have to remain looking at my 4 walls constantly this week, but under orders to take it easy.

You are doing the right thing by taking it easy. I went back to normal activity too fast after pneumonia/pleurisy in November and I am still not right.

Hope you start to feel better in the next week.

Thans

I kind of feel a fraud whilst sat on the sofa at home. However, once I have done something I realise why I am here and at home, as it wipes me out again so quickly.

Hopefully these 3rd antiobiotics will kick in and get rid of the final bits of infection.

Yes agreed, dont go back too soon....i did and i ended up with pneumonia 4 months later and that floored me. They classed it as double pneumonia and then thay started asking why someone of my age was getting so poorly...so they started looking at my immune system
Was beginning to think i was going to peg it...but i didnt and im still here
