Tamiflu side effects for under 5's ?

My poor lil one who is 19 months old was given tamiflu today after a few days of high fever, lethargic, and a slightly red throat. The doc said it could possibly be swine flu, not sure, but to be on the safe side prescribed us Tamiflu.

Has anyone given Tamiflu to your child under 5 and had any side effects that worried you like night tremors or throwing up, etc.?? I don't like the idea of giving her the drug, as it seems very strong for lil ones, but at the end of the day I'm not the doctor.

I may be really biased but as someone whom has seen swine flu in a vulnerable individual and how sick they were I would advise vaccinating (Was an adult though)Have had own under 5 vaccinated.

But if she has already had swine flu, don't you think its too late as she is building up antibodies?

AFAIK you have to give Tamiflu within 48 hours of symptoms starting and then it only reduces illness by 1 day. Considering its side effects, and the recent information about Tmaiflu not being as effective as it was supposed to be I don't think I would bother. Vaccination at this stage would be pointless obviously because if she has swine flu she is already building antibodies to it I think Mavis is confusing Tamiflu with the vaccine.

Hope your lo feels better soon.

Thanks bubblemummy, I gave her the tamiflu last night along with ibprofen. Her temp broke in the night and she's feeling much better today! She even ate her breakfast and has more energy. Think I will continue the tamiflu as doc instructed.
