Swine Flu Jab, undecided, help!

The school is vaccinating tomorrow (thurs) and I am still undecided as to consent for my DD1 (7yrs) to have it. She is in good health and eats well. In fact, this is the first school year (since September) that she has not had anything! However, last year she had a mild pneumonia which she recovered well from.

I also have two other children DS1 8yrs and DD2 4yrs. Both of these are in good health. DS1 had a chest infection in November with an acute asthma attack (never had before or since).

On one hand I don't fear they will get it and be really ill or worse. On the other hand, I worry that 20 years down the line it will turn out it had nasty side-effects (eg thallidamide springs to mind).

Help!

I had the jab, but I am asthmatic and any cold/flu goes straight to my chest, so I made the decision between a sore arm and death.

You know which one won!!

At the end of the day, its you that decides. If she is in good health and has no chest/breathing problems, then possibly not. But if she is susceptible to chest infections then I would without hesitation.

It hits the lungs and it hits them hard.

Also has their been much flu around your way? I hear it is supposed to be dieing down now, but you never know with that type of flu.

Plus I hate all the scare mongering that floats around. If we listened to everything that was in the press I am sure we would not breathe!!!

Get it done. My friend has just passed away from Swine flu leaving 3 children behind. She was the healthest person i knew. Mine have all been vacinated now.

Dillie and Sassy4 thanks for the replies.

In the end, at 9pm on way to school, I decided to have her done for the same reasons that she had any other vaccinations. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if she got it and ended up very ill or worse.

Sassy4 sorry to hear about your friend.

My 4 year old has had it but she has a heart problem. My 1 year old has also had it. We've had no reactions at all from it.
