Do babies have to lie flat until 6 months?

One of my spanish friends says so, and its not the first time I have heard a spanish person saying that. I asked the doctor here and he said its not necessary, but then again he is a bit crappy about all the baby matters.

The idea is that they have to go totally flat on the pram, or when they are at home otherwise they might have back problems.

My DD is 14 weeks but too big for the basket on the pram, to small for the stroller, so she has to go on the car-seat attached to the weels. Do you think this is not appropiate if we go out for more than 1 or 2 hours?

Thanks for reading.

Yes they should as much as possible. One or two hours in the car seat is fine, but I wouldn't be happy doing that more than a couple of times a week personally. You really need something so that you can take the baby out lying flat as much as possible I'd say.

What pram do you have that she is too big for the carrycot or whatever it is at 14 weeks?

Well, the one I have here is ok, but I am going to spain for 6 weeks and there I have is this
My dad read the leaflet and said the carrycot is for 60cm. maximum. DD is already 57 and we are going in a month so I thought she might outgrow it in that time

If you're going in a month, she'll be 4 months by then, yes? Does the stroller seat recline at all? If so, I'd put her in there in the most reclined position rather than the car seat.

At 4 months DS1 was fed up in the carrycot and wanted to see out, so as he was reasonably big, we put him in the pushchair instead.

Also, if you'll be there for 6 weeks, even if you're not happy with her in the stroller immediately, it would probably only be the couple of weeks using the car seat until she's fine in the stroller anyway, so I wouldn't panic too much.

Yes, thats true, she'll be 4 months and become 5!

The stroller reclines but not totally I think. But ok, I can just try both, and have her always as flat as poss in either of them.

Thanks a lot!

she will be fine in the stroller even from now as it reclines almost flat. The main reason they say from 6 months is that most parents prefer to keep an eye on very young babies, but conventional dtrollers don't allow the baby to face the person pushing the stroller. that's all

Thanks!

I was thinking that they don't lie flat in bouncy chairs either...
