Vomit, diahorea, subdued, and crying

My 14 month old is vomiting (started Saturday night), has diahorea, is very quiet (normal very very active little boy), and is very clingy and crying. He had a temperature this morning of 39 but I gave him calpol and it is now back to normal. He doesn't want to eat (I'm not worried, he's a healthy weight), but also doesn't want to drink. If he still isn't drinking tonight, I will start syringing in water just to make sure he is hydrated.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

There is a nasty bug going round at the moment. My ds (18mths) had it two weeks ago and he threw up/had the runs for the best part of a week, he was also very listless and just wanted to lie down and sleep (which is not like him as like your ds he is extremely active and verbal with it!). Eventually I put up his travel cot and he lay in that with just a nappy on and watched a bit of Cbeebies through the mesh panel. My doc's advice was to give water on a teaspoon every 15 minutes, because if they gulp lots of water the gulping action can just make them sick again. My friend's dd has it at the moment and has just taken her to the Doc who has prescribed antibiotics but has to wait for the diahorrea to subside before being given to her - which by then she will probably be over the bug!! HTH and your ds is feeling better soon.

Would he suck an ice pop ? - you could try homemade ones with very dilute fruit juice. The rehydration sachets are also good if he can sip from a straw (novelty of it may help). Is he still being sick, 4 days seems a long time especially if he hasn't been eating or drinking much.

Depending on how long he has been refusing to drink I would get him checked by the GP koalabear. Two full days of D & V can take it out of even the best nourished and active little boy.
Hope he is feeling much better soon.

hi, my 13 month old as been sick too, runny nose and coughing, and diahorea for two weeks. Have been seeing the doctor who says that its a virus. He got better on the weekend, and suddenly on Sunday last week his diahorea started again as well as his runny nose and coughing. He coughs so hard that he vomits his milk sometimes... I am really getting worried and not sure what to do anymore... Any one can give help on what I can do... thanks

i remember being horrified when my doctor said to do this for my daughter, and refused to do it until the last moment but it worked! she had terrible diahorea and he prescribed giving her nothing but flat coke, I dont know how it works but it does.

Ice lollies, fruit jelly - made quite runny - sometimes they like little spoonsful of that. Definitely seek medical advice as little ones get dehydrated easily. Don't worry about the lack of food though - his gut needs to rest.
