Isn't the Swine Flu jab optional?????

Just wondering because it seems we're getting hounded by the GP surgery for this. My DS is 4, no underlying conditions. So far we've had a letter from the surgery (brought home from school), a call from the surgery, another letter from the surgery and another letter from the NHS about a clinic day for his jab as DS would have to have Celvapan one as he's allergic to eggs.
I am still very undecided on the subject but don't want to be hassled into giving it to him!
Anyone else in the same boat? and should I get him vaccinated?

Yes I feel like its everyday someone is asking if I have had my children "done yet". In some ways I wish all my friends would just stop talking about it, wish I had planned a months holiday away so that when we returned the local drop in SF jab clinic would have finished.

I started a thread asking about Celvapan, has a few replies to it further up

Oh, when pregnant the GP surgery phoned me twice on one day and I had 3 letters inviting me along. I didn't have it. We'll no doubt get hounded about Tom who has an appt on saturday, but we're still unsure as what to do.

ASAIK the surgery gets money for every vax.

[shrug]

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 20/01/2010 23:19

AFAIK, not ASAIK. sorry

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 20/01/2010 23:20

it's optional - I gave DS3 his invitation (on a postcard addressed to him - he's 2 3/4yrs old) to eat

mumonthenet · 20/01/2010 23:25

it is optional whether you give it to your dc or not.

however, just be glad you live in the 21st century in the Western Hemisphere and that you have freedom of choice.

(I don't know if I would give it to a 4yo with no underlying conditions but I did get my dd(14yo) with asthma and am glad I did)

get my dd(14) DONE
