Hi
I know there are probably lots of threads about IBS already, but I'm really interested in hearing the experiences of others and whether they found that their doctor/health professionals helped.
I've had IBS (mainly constipation but occassionally the other way) for many years. I know it isn't life threatening but it is getting to increasingly control my life. I've tried a zillion things to help - I exercise daily, eat healthily. I did have a food intolerance test (admittedly online) which showed several intolerances to the major food groups although I know these tests are not entirely reliable. I think my problem is that its so unpredicable. I've tried to tie it down to particular foods, but can't - sometimes I react to say, chicken, sometimes I'm fine. I had a particulary stressful time a couple of years ago, yet, bizarrely, my IBS was okay.
However, at the moment every few weeks I have a flare up - this involves the cramps/constipation/terrible back ache (all the pain is on the left) and horrendous bloating. It then takes several days to subside. I also get worse prior to my period, although know thats common due to hormonal changes. I just can't understand how I can eat certain things one week and be absolutely fine, then, the next week feel awful??
I have been to the doctors over the years and tried the Fybogel and other bog standard treatments, but, at the moment, I'm more concerned about the discomfort - when I flare up but then manage to go to the toilet, the pain is still there.
I just know that if I go back to the doctors its a long old process to be seen at the hospital and I just can't understand what can be done?? would really appreciate anybody's experiences............
