eczema - wet wrapping question

My nearly four year old dd has had moderate/severe eczema since she was five months old. It particularly bad at the moment and her arms and legs are just covered with it - poor thing cries every time we apply Diprobase.
I've done wet wrapping occasionally using tight leggings and a small long-sleeved t-shirt, but being damp the clothes just lost their shape and ended up loose anyway. Does anyone here do regular wet wrapping? What bandages do you use? Can you get them on prescription? Thanks!

also, what's the consensus on the chicken pox vaccine for children with eczema? I am dreading dd picking up chicken pox. And what bath products do you use? I cannot find Oilatum flare-up anymore - really annoying as it always worked a treat.

Hi 2under2 you need to use tubifast bandages- they are available on prescription- but it would be best if a HV or nurse could come and show you how to use them.

We used 50:50 under wet wraps- initially with steroids as well although we phased them out as soon as we could.

Not sure about the varivax. Often chickenpox is OK with eczema anyway (my ds1 had no problems and he used to have severe eczema). I suppose it depends how bad their does is. Maybe ask your dermatology department what they recommend. Ours didn't recommend varivax at the time.

2under2 I would ask about the chickenpox vaccine because my dh has just had chickenpox(caught it off the kids!) and his psoriasis was affected terrible by it and still is. I know its a different skin condition but it hurts more on the weaker parts of your skin.

My ds (12months) has bad excema, he got chicken pox from his 4 year old sister and really suffered with it, they both were covered in painfull spots from head to toe and we had a miserable month with it so if there is a way of avoiding it then i would go for it, but obviously check with your gp. My dd also had excema as a baby and still gets the occasional patch, but the chicken pox was much worse behind the knees, on her arms and on her stomach (and in her minnie) which must have been agony and the doc said that was because thats where her excema was at its worse IFYSWIM.

We now use 1% hydrocortisone on bad patches but i must say we now use double base creme, and it has really made a difference, its non greasy and does not irritate, the diprobase had the same affect as yours he would flinch and cry when we applied it so now have swtiched and his excema is under control at last, even in this warm weather. You can get Double Base on prescription, you may even be able to buy it over the counter, (not sure about that tho).

Re Diprobase - 2under2 and Girly, did you use the cream or the oitment? Any cream irritates ds but the diprobase ointment is fine. Also there is a website here

We did wetwrapping, 2under2, you must get a prescription for the tubifast, it is expensive and you shouldnt have to pay for it. Good luck, we did it for 8 months.

We tried both Bunny2, have kept the tubes and use them on me instead as I have quite dry skin, used to have excema, its in the family, thanks Dad!
