The past month or so I have noticed some lumps. I have 1 just below my collarbone, it is hard like bone but not bone, it has grown and feels bruised. It hurts more if I exercise. It has been there about 3 months that I have noticed. The other lump is in my calf, I get a shooting pain in my calf if I am sittiong for long I have to put it up. The lump is quite deep in and about the size of a marble. I discovered it when I was putting moisturiser on. The next lump is on my arm, the opposite side of my elbow, its about the size of a 50p although an irregular shape and lumpy. I am seeing a doctor on Wednesday but does anyone have any idea what they could be to put my mind at rest?

They could possibly be lymph nodes but your GP will be able to tell you.

Oh poo, my sister had non hodgkins lymphoma so that worries me slightly.

Hi Clanky,

how long have you had them for? Just a month?

Do you have any other symptoms at all, such as weight loss, sweating at night, that kind of thing?

Also have you any history of illness, that might possibly be linked?

They could be nothing to worry about but yes, they need checking out especially if one has grown noticeably.

Sorry, really hope they are nothing! But good to be vigilant. Good luck xx

Sorry you said the calf one was about 3 months...has that grown at all?

clankypanky · 18/01/2010 14:22

The calf one doesnt appear to have grown at all, the one on my chest does seem to have got bigger, the one under the skin on my arm has grown considerably and quite quickly. I havent had sweats at night but for a long time, since when I was pregnant with my son who is now 2 I have had trembling from the neck up at night time and a juddery heart and it was skipping occasionally, I was tested for thyroid problems because I had goitre in my neck but it came back fine. They tested me again and there was something up with my bloods because they asked me to go back again but that was about 4 months ago and I heard nothing since so assumed its fine. I have recently been getting a lot of cold sores and migraines which hadnt really bothered me since being a teenager. I also seem to have a lot of fluid retention in my leg....the one with the lump and I am always freezing....my boyfriend hates it, he has to walk round in his shorts and top off because hes so hot and I'll be shivering under a blanket with a hot water bottle! I have lost 8lbs but I have been trying very hard to do so, I dont think its down to anything apart from exercising lots and eating less.

Hmmm...mysterious!

I wonder what it could be. I will go and google for you.

wait there and try not to grow any extra bits before I come back

Flightattendant · 18/01/2010 16:43

Right, well here are a few preliminary thoughts.
I think thyroid problems often cause circulation issues, and this would account for the oedema, feeling cold and so on. But if your thyroid function is OK maybe that's something else.

Not sure about the trembling thing.

The lumps could be something very simple and benign such as lipoma or neurofibroma...if you look them up you'll see what they are like. I would not panic at this stage.

I hope the doc can find out what they are and reassure you, sorry to hear about your sister.

clankypanky · 20/01/2010 10:59

The doc said that the one on my arm and leg is lipoma, they will only do something about it if it gets massive. The one on my chest is a bit strange because it seems the top of my rib bone has popped out a bit, but they wont do anything about that either, he said it usually would only happen if youve had a bit of a trauma there which is weird because I havent had one. Anyway, its all non sinister which is great. As for the oedema...he prescribed water tablets and told me I need to put my feet up more often...ha ha, yeah right....like thats going to happen with 3 children and a childminding business to run!
