Im so scared i've f*ed my knee up 4 good, i am supposed to be seeing old friends today and so was trying to squeeze on a pair of skinny pants tights things and as i was pulling them up i heard my knee almost 'snap' it went backwards and i fell on the floor. this was about an hour ago or so and i used deep heat and took 2 ibuprofen and apart from bieng sore i thought it was ok, stood up and tried again and it happened again but worse (this was about 20 mins ago) i have been helped downstairs to sofa but am now alone with my 2 boys and im terrified it will happen again when i get up.
What does it sound like has happened???? and should i see a doc or will it go by itself? (i really don't want to go to hospitol)

If your knee can't take your weight then you need to get it checked out properly. Go now before it gets too Saturday-night busy.

Good luck!

knicknack · 16/01/2010 14:27

Im really not that heavy 14 stone spot on now. Do you have any ideas what may have happened?

sounds like you have twisted your ligaments

Snowtiger · 16/01/2010 16:50

Put ice on it (bag of peas will do the trick) knicknack, whatever you've done that'll help it. Hope it's not too badly injured.

knicknack, how are you doing?

knicknack · 17/01/2010 17:12

ok well doctor didn't come out to me, did a phone assesment and said it sounded like torn ligaments and to take ibuprofen and rest and go to gp in the week if it gets worse
It was so painful thismorning though so i went to the walk in surgery and they checked me over and it is a slipped something begining with 'p' and sprained ligament so not too serious and will heal on its own after a bit
I am now taking it easy with ds2 (5months) while ds1 has gone out with family to a play centre and for tea and will be dropped back for bath and bedtime

Patella? Otherwise known as a knee cap- very painful- you poor thing.

knicknack · 17/01/2010 17:56

That sounds about right brigitbigknickers, and yes is painful! and i will NEVER try to squeeze into something too small for me again

I've got exactly the same thing - a damaged ligament, and inflamed kneecap. It's been painful for about 6 weeks now, in spite of 5 physio visits. I was told to put a hot water bottle on it, rather than ice.

Also, the physio told me not to wear a support tubi-grip thing as it will make the kneecap worse by making it rub against something (sorry, can't remember what!).

When you are sitting down, elevate it and put a cushion behind the knee so that it stays slightly bent.

knicknack · 17/01/2010 18:35

Littlefish i got told today at the walk in surgery NOT to put a support on despite bieng told different on the phone yesterday, i have not been booked in for any physio though just told that it will get better itself.
This is what i'm doing with the cushion ect so hopefully wont get any worse.
And just out of curiosity, how did you do yours littlefish?

That sounds awful.

As there are people who know about/have experience with dodgy knees here, do you think my problem is similar - sorry to hijack.

I kneel down outside school to inflate P&T tyre, yet again , and when I try to get up, my right leg will not straighten. It's agony and feels like the back of my knee consists of 2 poles, one of which slides back inside the other, but the smaller one can't slide back in if that makes sense?

Littlefish · 17/01/2010 18:56

I stumbled over a rose bush, while I was carrying one end of a carpet! I didn't realise I'd done anything at the time, but it just got stiffer and stiffer over the next 6 hours or so.

Are you able to self-refer for physio? Our minor injuries unit offers this service. When I saw the physio, about 5 days after I'd done it, she said that it was good that I'd come to see her so quickly as she was able to start using ultrasound on it to aid the healing process.

Oh Lady - that sounds really painful. I really think you should go and see someone about it.

knicknack · 17/01/2010 20:08

I'm not sure if can self refer but they didn't seem to think it was anything too serious and i dont want to bug them! I have never felt pain like it when it gave way both times i seriously would rank it close to strong labour (but in my leg )
Ohlady that sounds like it should be seen to!

Littlefish · 20/01/2010 21:25

I saw the physio today. She thinks my knee is so slow to heal because my knees "hyperflex" or something. It basically means that they go backwards past being straight. This means that everytime I walk on my bad leg, I am putting pressure back through the kneecap and damaged ligament.

How are you today knicknack?
