Asthma attack

Ive just got out of hospital after an asthma attack. Got home yesterday afternoon. Was admitted on saturday nite around midnight. I was so scared, this is the first attack since being on my own. I kept putting off doing something about it until I went to bed on saturday nite and just couldnt get my breathing right. Asthma a still fairly new to me, only got diagnosed in 2008 and this is my first attack since then.
Just wanted to say how scared i was and how apparently I should have gone to hospital sooner, but am still not properly recognising just how bad I get in an attack.
I know im not alone, there are millions of asthma sufferers out there, but i was sooo scared.

This sounds very frightening. I have longstanding ( formerly mild) asthma but only been admitted with other complications so feel a bit new to managing it all too. I got told I should have gone to hospital sooner - after not being able to get appointment with gp. I did not know how ill I was till I was put on O2 and not allowed to take it off - for a week!
I have just got a free information pack- 'be in control of your asthma' from www.asthma.org.uk - see the publications advert on the left -it has a peak flow chart and an action plan and the questions to ask at reviews. The action plan tells you how to recognise when your asthma is getting worse and how to know when you should get help and from whom. I have found it very helpful. I think they have a members chat board too but I have not sorted out membership yet.
Its scary when our bodies let us down - and this cold out/hot indoors weather is difficult. It takes a while to get our trust in our survival skills back and just knowing what to do helps. Hope you feel better soon.

thanks Magso, Im getting there. Just been sitting doing nothing since I came home. It hits you like a bus when you get home after youve been in the secure surroundings of the hospital. But my peak flow is up to 270 today which is good as it was only at 140 when I was admitted. Still on antibiotics for the chest infection and steriods for a few more days. And a couple of weeks off work to recuperate.
I was visited by the Asthma team whilst in hospital and they were very informative. I really do feel that I can manage my asthma alot better now ive had a lengthy chat with them.
Stay healthy everyone!!
