i have had sinusitus for 8 years and use nasalnex to prevent inflammation. i have ran out and havnt had it for about 4 months. i was doing quite well without nasalnex but have had a bad time with my sinuses the last 3 weeks. i have to use co-codamol on a daily basis to kill the headaches. today someone told me chocolate aggravates it. is this true because i have been eating a lot of the stuff the last 3 weeks and this could explain things.

I don't think you should be taking co-codamol daily. If one of your symptoms is severe headaches (which I bet it is) then you can exacerbate it by taking codeine regularly. You would be better taking ibuprofen and paracetamol (together) which is also stronger. I haven't got any medical qualifications but this is what my doctor told me. I think it would be worth seeking advice.
Oh and don't know about Chocolate. Could be to do with the caffeine?

Have you had a scan of your sinuses? I had one due to recurring bouts of sinusitis and they could see that I had a very narrow tube. Small operation corrected this and I've had virtually no trouble ever since. Just thought it might be worth mentioning - no idea about chocolate I'm afraid, but I know that milk and cream used to make mine worse, so maybe stick to plain choc?

Dairy products can be very mucus forming so yes chocolate can do that. Bananas are too. Try cutting out all dairy for a week then you will see if it helps. Even a tiny amount will make aggrevate so that includes milk in tea too.

thanks everyone for advice i am going to change my pain relief to parecetamol and ibuprofen see if it helps. am due the doctor on monday to try and sort it out so i will ask about an operation. the pain never used to get that bad but this is unbearable. am on day number 1 of cutting out dairy so i will see if it makes a diffence in a few days i suppose. Surprise its nice to hear of a success story i have spoke to so many people who have had the operation with no success so i feel a bit hopeful with your story

addicted - I think that's why they need to scan you. I had the "camera up the nose" thing which didn't find anything untoward; it's only that I had a good specialist who decided that a scan would see if there was anything treatable. Good luck with the non-dairy thing
