Is anyone else's asthma worse with the cold weather?

Mine has got worse and I'm having to take a higher dose brown inhaler through a spacer. It flared up last year when it was cold and dry. Just wondered if anyone else was suffering and had any tips? The doctor and pharmacist said to take a blue inhaler before the brown preventative to open up the airways. Being breathless and not being able to do much sure is annoying!

My 6 year old is always worse in the winter, damp weather and when it's stormy. He was taken off the brown inhaler a year or so ago and given a much newer purple inhaler which has worked like a dream. He takes it twice a day without fail and there was a definite improvement, although every winter he is more reliant on the blue inhaler. It might be worth you trying the purple one and seeing if it helps.

yes you get bronchospasms with cold air. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronchospasm

try breathing through your nose as much as possible, this way the eair gets warmed up before reaching your lungs.

When i had problems the other week and no relief from my blue inhaler and NHS Direct told me to goto hospital (Preggars, and had flu) they advised me before going out the door to put a scarf/pashmina over my mouth to stop inhaling cold air also to get the car warmed up by someone before getting in to help....HTH

The purple inhaler is a mix of the brown and the green ones. alot ot people swear by it but it makes me shake. I still take the brown and green separately.

Sorry not to reply before. Thank you. It helps to feel you aren't alone. I do take the purple inhaler but it is much less effective. Have had the dose of brown inhaler upped so hope that will sort things out. Hope the rest of you are doing OK.
