Hi, sorry for this but I really know know what to do for the best.

DD is 3 and I heard on radio they are starting to offer the jab to under 5's so I guess at some point DD will be offered it. I dont know what to do about it. I heard that it wasnt tested which is why there is so much hype on it.

Also DD gets most colds, coughs etc out there so is it best to get it done?

Im so confused!!!

Just replied to another thread - just got our letter today for DS 2.10yrs

Was undecided til I spoke to BIL (NHS consultant, he has a baby too, so can relate to parental concern!)

He definitely recommends the vaccine, he's seen too many young children deteriorate rapidly in hospital. Any side effects of the vaccine are nominal vs serious risks from swine flu.

Strange how the medical professionals are so divided. All of my GP friends with children wouldn't touch the vaccine. They've all said swine flu is milder than normal flu and so if you don't normally get vaccinated against flu there is no pint in getting this vaccine especially now there's been such a huge drop in cases and we're on our way out of flu season. Obviously it's your decision but based on the figures now I really don't think the vaccine is necessary.

Could be completely wrong, but is the split related to professionals in primary care vs secondary care? All of the hospital-based people I've spoken to are recommending it without hesitation, based on the number of kids they've seen in intensive care etc.

Like you said, each to their own decision!

I've had Dd2 (3) and Dd3 (8 mnths) done and so far no ill -effects.

All hospital based medics have told me to get it without hesitation.

Difficult decision but as there has already been swine flu in DD's nursery we thought we should get it done. Surgery was mobbed when we went do I yhink lots of other people feel the same way.

I don't think so Amazonian. One of my friends is doing her GP training and was based in the hospital over the summer.

I imagine ds, 3 , will be offered it too then.
i won't have it done. Both myself and my daughters all had swine flu (well it was diagnosed over the phone so 'probably' swine flu) and were really ill with it. Ds never got it, in all he's been exposed to it 3 times (with other kids) and he's been poorly on and off this winter but never got full blown as far as i can tell.
So right or wrong in my reckoning, ds has built up an immunity and i'd be more worried about the jab anyway myself.
