No, you don't have to grin and bear it. Can you ask to see another GP in the same practice?

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/01/2010 10:06

Definitely go to another GP.

However, in the meantime, why not try a really serious 'anti-piles' () regime?

Cream every morning, every night and after a poo.

And use a suppository at the same time (so you're dealing with internal as well as external), and get yourself some antihistamines to deal with the itching. Find one that is a drowsy one and take it at night, so that you sleep better and aren't scrtching during the night - which is when you're probably doing most damage.

And a bath each night with some tea tree oil could also help soothe inflamed skin.

Not that I've ever suffered myself!

3littlefrogs · 13/01/2010 10:07

And never use toilet paper. Gentle use of bidet is much better...

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/01/2010 10:09

yes - you can buy moist wipes specifically for piles (Preparation H and Germaloids both do them).

But beware of ordinary moist wipes - I have developed an allergy to them and they were making things worse. You really don't want perianal dermatitis as well as piles.

You may have already tried this, but I've found the Anusol HC cream to be far more effective than the standard Anusol or Preparation H. You have to ask for it as its behind the counter at the chemist.

kingprawntikka · 13/01/2010 10:39

Oh and your not being pathetic... its no fun when you can't sit down or walk comfortably!!

CommonNortherner · 13/01/2010 10:44

oh ffs, what a shit doctor. Mine did me some suppositories on prescription that were great, and was sympathetic!

CommonNortherner · 13/01/2010 10:45

What I mean is... see a different doc!

Meglet · 13/01/2010 10:47

Yes, different GP, what an asshole

You could ask the GP's receptionist if any of them specialise in that, um, area . I've had a few problems and am going to see the specialist one at our surgery. Mind you, even my normal GP has been helpful.

Hope you get it sorted, its a rotten thing to put up with.

TheGoddessBlossom · 13/01/2010 11:03

I was only thinking about this this morning. Having my Second DS has wrecked my nether reagions, particularly as the stitches were up round there as well No cream seems to work. Haven't gone to the GP yet but think I will have to....

Good tip about no loo paper, it does make things worse and I will look into suppositories...deep joy.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/01/2010 11:03

See a different GP, the one you saw previously was most unhelpful. Ask also to be referred to a specialist. You need help with this as it is impacting on your day to day life.

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/01/2010 11:06

Suppositories are actually very easy to 'take', and not uncomfortable at all. The bum has a sort of 'suck it up' reflex (technical term) which means once the suppository has gone past the point of no return it sort of disappears up there of it's own accord.

LoveBeingAMummy · 13/01/2010 11:09

You need to change docs.

BrahmsThirdRacket · 13/01/2010 13:36

Yeah he sounds rubbish. If you don't want to deal with people's piles, don't become a GP. Is he a complete old fart by any chance?

secretsquirrel1 · 13/01/2010 13:42

What you need to try is Proctosedyl Suppositories - on prescription - they worked a treat for me

Littlefish · 13/01/2010 13:43

LOL at Dr BecauseImWorthIt. And ha ha at the "suck it up" reflex.

Does this only work on Fridays?
