Anyone who has had Celvapan

Were you happy with its safety?
I am 25wks pregnancy and am in such a tizz about getting vaccinated against swine flu, I thought I was comfortable receiving the Celvapan vaccine but canceled my apointment at the last minute. I feel so stressed about whether to get the vaccine or not.
It was a post from someone on another forum saying about the new vero cell technology used in Celvapan to make the virus carrying a risk of the vaccine being infected with HIV that panicked me.

I have spoken to my GP and MW but both just say that the Royal college of Obstetricians are advising pregnant women to be vaccinated, I don't feel reassured by this, I wish they could answer my questions.

Brightredballoon,

No worries, ask away.

yes the research refers to MF59 (components: squalene, polysorbate 80 and span 85) rather than AS03 (components: squalene, polysorbate 80 and tocopherol). I'd expect there to be no clinical difference in the two formulations. They differ only in the fatty acids they use to create the emulsion that the squalene is delivered in.

Are you any closer to a decision then? Personally I'd been trying to get the celvapan since I was 24 weeks or so, and the whole things taken so long that I'm still not due to get the second dose till 10 days before my baby's due. The whole thing seems to be such an administrative mess.

Emmysmummy - I wish I had posted this back in November when I was first called for the vaccine (Pandemrix), your replies have answered so many of my random questions that have popped into my head and because you have been able to give an answer to them it has reassured me IYKWIM?
When I have asked the Doctor various questions - ranging from "will my baby get some of the vaccine through the placenta" he said no, which I now understand is untrue. Then when I realised the baby did get some of the vaccine I asked how they are able to know how much of the ingredients will reach the baby e.g as they are not vaccinating 0-35month olds so how is it safe for my even younger baby?
If the Doctor could have even been more reassuring it would have saved me losing sleep and worrying about the vaccines.

I thought I had reached a decision a couple of days ago when I phoned to book in for the Celvapan and the Doc had originally said if I went for that one my two kids could have it at the same time as they didnt have anyone with egg allergy to receive the vaccine so it would go to waste but then another Doc has said they wouldn't be allowed to give it to children.... which has confused me even more!
I think the fact that noone in my Town has had Celvapan is worrying me as well - hence my search to find positive stories from the web!

It must be frustrating to not have the 2nd jab until so close to your due date, I realise they are still recommending 2 jabs but in Ireland I understand they are only giving 1 so at least you have antibodies now.

Just wanted to update the thread, had a change of heart after a local swine flu case and all three of us had the pandemrix as celvapan wasn't available any more. Thanks for all the replies.
