Sorry another Cerazette question

Apologies, I know there have been some lengthy cerazette threads in the past.

I have been on it for just over 5 weeks now, I took it in the past with no ill effects and my periods stopped. However this time it is a bit different.

I have been bleeding moderately since about Day 7, it isn't a huge amount but enough to have to wear a pad all the time and to make ahem intimate relations slightly strained. I went on the cerazette to try and slow down progression of endometriosis and give myself a breather from the pain, so whilst the bleeding is annoying it isn't painful so whilst I'd like it not to last forever I can live with it for just now.

I am also feeling very low at the minute. It could be completely unrelated, my boss is fairly volatile and appears to be going through a nit picking period and I do tend to take things personally but I have been weepy and down and I'm wondering if its linked to the cerazette. In 2009 I was on zoladex for 6 months which effectively puts you into menopause and was very depressed whilst on it.

Is it possible to have taken a pill in the past with no side effects and then for that to change when you go on it again, I'm 39 btw ? I know I should go to the doctor but I want to give it a good run as I'm hoping maybe the bleeding will stop and also there aren't a lot of other great options as progesterone only pill is what is best for me. Thanks for any advice.

I found a few years ago that Cerazette gave me constant break through bleeding, killed my labido and made me moody. I gave it a nice long chance and 6 months on finally went back to doctors to change my contraception

rookiemater · 09/01/2010 23:17

Oh dear, what are you on now ?

I opted for an IUD in the end, no hormones. So if I want another baby, they just take it out and you can get pregnant asap. Well if you're lucky that is

Works great and I don't even know its there. No moodiness, break through bleeding etc.

teaandcakeplease · 10/01/2010 09:09

As you need to be on a pill, why don't you go back to GP and ask them to change it?

I've found since having kids that my periods are very different, so maybe your body just doesn't agree with it now for some reason? Ask their advice?

rookiemater · 10/01/2010 09:58

Thanks I know I need to go back, but I just wanted to make sure I had given it enough time.

rookie, I took cerazette as I too have endo and was running out of options.

I found I was very moody and emotional on cerazette so had to weigh up mood swings or pain. I sort of reset my endo when I was pregnant and it improved after having 2 children. I did fake menopause at 27, was on HRT, hated every minute of it (that was before having children)

I came off cerazette and was considering the implant (don't currently take anything as Dh had the snip and wanted to see how my endo was without drugs) Clearly for you this is not an option if your endo is bad right now.

Minera coil that has progesterone? Or one without? Or implant? Were you on another pill before cerazette? I think endo sufferers get offered it as it can stop your periods and offer some relief. Good luck.

rookiemater · 11/01/2010 15:14

Thanks fizzy.

I'm a bit reluctant to go on the coil. My cousin has very bad endo went on the coil and ended up with dreadful troubles and was in hospital very seriously ill, although I know this is a rare occurrence. I am unkeen to think about the Minera as if I am bad on Cerazette dread to think what I would be like emotionally with the coil.

I have decided to wait and see a few more weeks before making any changes. I have been fine emotionally over the weekend and don't work Mondays so think a lot of the problems could be caused by work rather than the drugs per se. Still bleeding, which is annoying but as its not painful I can live with it.

What is the implant ? Does that stop your periods, is it recommended for Endo sufferers ? Sorry could just google

I hope your Endo continues to be manageable, mine seemed to get a lot worse in a short time frame when I came off the pill ( which ironically I had no problems with before) so if it does start getting bad again, do go to the doctors quickly.

The implant is that rod thing in your arm, I was running out of contraceptive options Can't take combined pill, had high blood pressure & vision disturbance reaction after 9 years of being on it, came off it, endo symptoms returned massively. Went to doctors and wasn't fobbed off like I had been previously with "your female, you have painful periods and ovulation, get over it"

Saw gynae, put on duphaston (pure progesterone) for 8 months, didn't help, did synarel (fake menopause at 27yrs old , on HRT too) hated every second, then they told me endo still there and spreading. Had lap and dye, they told me it was really bad on one side, lots of scar tissue, try to get pregnant now but prepare myself for the distinct possibility that I would need IVF. 2 weeks later I was pregnant

Had ds1, put on femulen, came off to try for next baby, 4 months later pregnant with him. After he was born, back on femulen.

The reason I was put on cerazette was because I was having a lot of break though bleeding plus as I had just had ds2 so my family was complete and cerazette can stop ovulation.

It is funny you saying about work, I worked full time up until I had ds1, then part-time after ds1 was born, then we moved due to DH's job 100 mile away. I initally stayed at home and looked for a job, ds1 was 16 months old.

In the end I realised that my endo had vastly improved because I wasn't stressed! I didn't think my job was stressful but the juggling work and childcare with smart mouthed comments from colleagues - female, with children, was getting to me. As I had more leisurely days, I found my endo got better.

Have you also tried any alternative therapies? I have had reflexology and acupuncture when my endo was horrific. Acupuncture is good, weird but good. Also just taking time out to relax, lie on a bed, just chill for 20 mins. Sounds crazy but I found it helped.

Thanks for sharing your story fizzylemonade.

I was doing research on other pills and Femulen is another potential option, but unless bleeding gets more pronounced I'm going to wait until the end of the second packet to see how I get on. Read a few lines about the implant, didn't like the way it said that for some people periods got heavier as I bet that would be me ! At least with the pill if it isn't working I can just stop and change brand.

Ironically I'm not on the pill for contraceptive purposes, we really wanted another DC but thats when the whole Endo diagnosis started and it just got too painful to keep on trying.

Work is way too stressful, I do 4 days a week but with pretty much a full time workload, at the minute I'm able to do extra hours as DH is in between contract. I'm fed up with being stressed and tired but I'm not entirely sure how to change it as we can't afford for me to give up and when I tried to reduce to 3 days before after being off for emotional issues caused by the Zoladex they weren't receptive. This week I'm trying to cultivate a teflon attitude so that no matter what is said to me I don't take it personally, but it's all heavy going at the minute.

I have heard that acupuncture is good but never got round to trying it, maybe I should.

Aw rookie, endo is a nightmare. I was on prescription painkillers daily when I was diagnosed. Hence why I tried the fake menopause when they offered it as a solution I mean how desperate do you have to be to put yourself through that voluntarily

I think I was on cerazette for 8 months.

Acupuncture was weird, but I would recommend trying it. Basically for me, they stuck about 14 needles in me, one of which was in the top of my head. Apparently the energy flow goes from toes to head, and I ended up with my legs going completely rigid where I couldn't wiggle my toes. The person doing the acupuncture said that it is because my energy got trapped in my legs as my endo was stopping the energy getting past my abdomen! It wasn't painful just strange. I had 4 sessions, then had my op.

Stress is a killer for endo, if you get stressed it can make the endo worse, then you get stressed because you are in pain, it is a vicious cycle.

I have to admit I did try everything, tried changing my diet, did chinese tea (awful stuff but tried it) the things I found helped were the acupuncture and that 20 minutes chilling time.

Also let things slide that aren't important. Have at least one fun day at the weekend. Realise that you can only do so much at work and what you don't get done is still waiting there for you. Go to bed earlier, if you are anything like me (when I worked) you go to bed later than you should because you don't want the next day to come round
