The first concerns were raised by her optician i believe and after a series of test, the diagnosis that MIL has told me is a 'minor stroke.' She is on some kind of medicine which she is to continue taking, and apparently her cholesterol is slightly raised.

I am prob going to get an apointement with her gp once the consultant has sent details across to the dr as mil is confused about whole thing.

I am obv going to ask what the implications are, what medicine MIL is on and what it does (she takes a fair few so i cant just google a particular drug). What else should we be asking?

DH is devastated and is convinced this is begining of end for MIL as his DH had a stroke and that was the beginning of a major deterioation in health for him including a number of further strokes before he finally died of a heart attack. So any happy ending stories would help too, and personally i think MIL may be thinking same as DH as tbh she hasnt been 'happy' sine FIL died.

Friend of mine also had a minor stroke spotted after the event by an optician (reduced field of vision compared to previous tests). She was only 39 at the time, and since then has been on low-dose medication (not sure exactly what) in the three or four years since then and has not had any further incidents. So, in my (decidedly non-expert) opinion, this seems to be something that can happen at any age, and does not necessarily signal the beginning of the end. Probably a good thing that this was spotted early as a wake-up call for other issues like the cholesterol, and she can now be on preventative medication.

Why not google for the stroke association and see what they have to say?
