Thrush in nappies

Do GPs give an oral medicine for thrush (on the skin) in children?.
DD has terrible thrush all over her bottom. Started a week ago and I saw GP who gave some cream. At this stage it was just a couple of areas on bum cheeks. Then after 4 days I took her back to GP as it was worse- got stronger cream. Have another app tomorrow as it is now TERRIBLE. She is so uncomfortable and sore. I have used the cream at each nappy change put barrier cream on top (as advised). I have been careful not to spread it around her bottom. Have also tried to give her nappy free time when possible. Only relief she seems to get is in the bath. What next? Hope to get oral medicine to sort it all out tomorrow ????

Forgot to say she is 2 and 7 months.

I'll probably get shot down for saying this but why not try potty training and get rid of the problem altogether?

If she is in reuseables you will need to wash them with Citricidal or soak them in Milton to kill the thrush BTW.

Personally I'd keep up the cream and get her in knickers.

Good luck, those sore bums are awful.

Thanks I agree that would help but not convinced it would go away as it is so bad. Was actually going to start toilet training this week until this happened. Worried about her scratching herself raw unless supervised. Also she is 2 days in day care and couldnt risk it being passed on to other kids if she is running around in pants. However... this morning GP has prescribed oral medicine and more cream so fingers crossed it will be sorted out. Will also keep her in pants at home when possible. Looking forward to getting it sorted out she I can train her- she is ready.

has gp given you nystatin and daktacort. If its these ,they should sort it out and then use a barrier cream like siopel and her bum to stop ammonia blistering her bum

Good luck WeeG. The cream should work - my nephews have had this on their bums and it is horrible.

Remember to wash knickers at 60, dry on hot radiator etc and think about getting some Milton or Citricidal in. I am very anti sterilising (and cleaning in general) but used Milton for my breast pump etc when I got thrush in my boobs. It's a bugger to get rid of.

You can put a few drops of Citricidal in her bath too.
