Treating nits when pregnant

Hmmmmm! So we have our first, probably of many, cases of nits.

It's not really bad, but Lotbags was scratching her head and I thought I saw something move and so did D so we've treated her with that overnight solution stuff, and D has gone off for the weekend having used the 30min solution.

I'm not sure if I have any but to be honest the moment you think you might you start feeling things on your head don't you. D checked before he left and couldn't actuallt see anything but all the same..... have changed all the sheets etc.

Question is can I use the overnight solution?
It says to seek medical advice if your pregnant or breastfeeding but I wanted to use it tonight and I don't know who to ask at this time of night, other than you girls. So, what do you reckon?

phone a local pharmacy TC to find out from them. speak to pharmasist they should be able to tell u.

Thomcat, I think bug busting is by far the best way of getting rid of lice, and as it doesn't use any chemicals it's toally harmless.

Have a look at Community Hygiene Concern - they're a charity dedicated to getting rid of lice.

i never use any solutions cos they dont seem to work (we must get super hard northern nits ). i just use a nit comb with conditioner in the bath, then do it again a few days later. probably not much help as it doesnt answer your question, but it does get rid of them so good alternative if no one can tell you whether or not its safe

Thomcat, the ds's had nits when I was pg and the pharmacist advised that I couldn't use any of the chemicals. You have to just keep combing the blighters out. My cousin who is a GP swears by mayonaise, (on the head, mind, not on your salad!) Leave overnight and comb out, apparently it smothers them. And welcome, Lottie, to the world of nits! Its about a ten-year-membership!

BTW, we got a thing called the Robi-comb, electrocutes them, haven't had a case since!

My doc told me they only write the thing about 'consult doctor if breastfeeding or pregnant' because no-one can be bothered to put up the money for the extensive research needed into the subject. Annoying for pregnant women.

I've been getting good results with the 'Nitfree' system (herbal oily overnight shampoo and, crucially, special comb.

also the fact they cant get many pregannt willing offering themselves for medical trials.

The smell of it hit my stomach and I spent an hour trying not to puke but finally had to give in. It felt like the smell was inside me and it hurt if that makes any sense. That's put me off using it. Ohhhh God, the wonderful world of head lice!

i wouldn't bother using the chemicals tbh, just keep combing through every other day for a couple of weeks

I know it sounds odd but parsley water is supposed to help prevent...

DEFFO use conditioner and comb

Dsd gets really bad infestations of nits, literally hundreds. For some reason I seemed more susceptible to catching them from her when I was pregnant, I got them every visit. My GP prescribed Lyclear, but to be honest, if you only have a few you can just as easily get them out by wet combing every other day. You need to carry on for at least a fortnight after you found the last one in case any new ones hatch. You can get really cheap conditioner from Asda or Boots for about 30p that does the job.

I'd really recommend a nitty gritty comb as it gets out the eggs and the lice, and it doesn't hurt your head. It's been absolutely brilliant on dsd and I've managed to get out stuff with that when I thought she was clear. You can get them on prescription.

nitcomb and tea tree conditioner works for us. we also use a tea tree leave-in spray.
