What are my options? Any advice?

I've been to the doctors to discuss non-stop bleeding for last couple of months. She's sent me off for an ultrasound to check out what's happening. When this happened last year the scan showed up that I had very thick womb lining and this was the cause of it and I imagine is still the same.

The doctors said my options are coil - which I really don't fancy or some sort of pill - again I don't fancy this as I've never been on it so why start now at nearly 50.

When I read up on both options they mentioned weight gain and as I am very overweight I really don't want to add to it.

I thought they could do a D & C or thin the womb lining with lasers but I was told thwas the last options and my local hospital didn't do these anyway but could offer a hysterectomy. Which is a bit drastic

what are the options in this situation? is the thinning of the womb too drastic? are there any other options?

I'd ask to be referred somewhere that could offer you more choices on treatment - there are several endometrial ablation methods out there.

It might be worth giving the Mirena a try though - my friend who was having a lot of problems with bleeding had one fitted, and it worked wonders. And didn't make her put on weight either, even though she struggles with her weight

I think you need a 2nd opinion. If you are 50 the nonstop bleeding sounds hormonal so maybe you should be treated with HRT or progesterone?

Pills they can give you to stop so much bleeding.

The Mirena coli would probably work wonders. Why don't you fancy it?

TBH you seem to be ruling out everything without due reason!

You migh t put on weight witht he Mirena as i t does release progesterone- but ina ny case, maybe dealing with your weight would help as it might wwll be exacerbating the problem.

They've tested me twice and said I am menopausal.

I've never fancied putting chemicals in my body so have never used the pill as a birth control method so I feel odd about doing it now. I've also read that your sex drive can drop and I don't want that to happen.

The mirena - I worry about what it will feel like inside me. I know it sounds odd but I do. There are times when my body rejects tampons and I can feel them being pushed out out so I dread to think what would happen with the coil. I've also had friends who had the most awful pains adn they were removed pdq.

I worry that my local hospital doesn't want to offer more solutions so its the pill/coil/hysterectomy - as most people will not choose the hysterectomy the other options are convenient and quick for the hospital to dole out.
It's just a very limiting choice and I'm sure there must be other options and then I can decide what's the best option for me.

I agree with the weight but its hard.
