ok this is probably a stupid question really!

had a baby 4 months ago and me and hubby got a bit carried away monday night forgot condom (he pulled out within about a minute) but do u think its worth getting morning after pill?

my local GUM clinics have been shut and really cant fford the £26 for it. going to see if GUM is open tomorrow cos only have til tomorrow night until the 72 hours is up....

what should i do...go get it or not? what if clinic is shut? I really cant afford £26

Hold on - sorry to be graphic, but did he actually um come inside you?
Asking as I don't really get the "he pulled out within about a minute" bit.

LowLevelWhingeing · 07/01/2010 00:01

Depends how bothered you are about the possibility of being pregnant; if it would be a tragedy, then £26 is worth it. If it would be a happy accident, then the chances are slim anyway...

Can't you pop and see your GP? It doesn't matter if he 'shot his load' as he releases little bits of sperm before this anyway IIRC. Your GP should be able to sort you out with the MAP, you can also get the coil fitted aswell. It may be a good idea to have a chat with your GP about some contraceptives aswell why you are there.

God, I feel like your mum now.

alypaly · 07/01/2010 00:53

you can get the morning after pill from your GP as fluffy says

No he didn't come, he literally went in for about a minute then pulled out. Off to see if clinics are open this morning. Lol don't worry bout sounding like my mum, been having trouble deciding what I want cos crap at taking pills didn't like the implant made me bleed really irregularly! Booked gp appointment! Injection was ok except for weight gain and heard loadsa horror stories about coil

Surely £26 now is cheaper than the risk of having 2 very small children ?

Right. Lets start with a disclaimer - you need to do what you think is best - I'm not a medical person this is just my opinion, but ...

While it s possible as Fluffyforlife says to get pregnant before the man comes, from little bits of sperm which are released (or so I've heard), I always thought this was only just before he came (please correct me if I'm wrong people.)

The chances of you getting pregnant from him just being inside you for a minute are IMO very, very slim indeed!

I regularly used withdrawal as a method of contraception with my ex for 10 years and I never got pregnant (both of us have gone on to have kids, so we were fertile).

And we're not even talking classic withdrawal here (where the guy pulls out just before he comes). Here (it seems) he wasn't even near coming. Personally if it was me I wouldn't give it a second's thought and the morning after pill wouldn't cross my mind.

But perhaps you are both super fertile. (Worried that you might be back here in a month saying "Oi lowrib, i'm pregnant!" But really because I'm more worried about sod's law than the actual chance of you being pregnany IYSWIM!)

To be honest I'm more worried about your attitude to the morning after pill. For it to be effective, you need to take it as soon as possible. You can't just wait till the 72 hours is nearly up to make up your mind - the chances of it working go down as time passes, and if you leave it till the last minute you may well take it and find you are pregnant anyway. (May mate's 2yo DS was conceived this way).

If I was you, I'd keep the Drs appointment and use it as a chance to talk over your contraception for the future. It sounds like you've had a crappy time with contraception and finding one which suits you. I'd be honest with him/her about why you think you might be pregnant and go on his/her advice.

One last thing - are you breastfeeding? Have your periods come back yet? Again, while it is possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding, if your period hasn't come back yet, it is much less likely that you have conceived.

HTH. Try not to worry too much!

Hi I got it yesterday morning, from docs no problems, my docs and GUM clinics were shut til yesterday due to snow. I'm too thinking it's a slim chance but done now, considering it has taken us 6 months to concieve every time (4 times only 2 successful pregnancies), i discussed contraception with doc going to have depo injection when my period arrives, had it for 6 months in 08!

Btw I'm not breastfeeding (much to my disgust) am in process of re-starting milk ATM
