Endo = Major back ache

Claire2009 · 30/12/2009 23:32

Back is absolutely killing me here, and I've no pain killers of ANY sort in the house!!!

I think I have endometriosis, it's my left shoulder blade, but I had a normal period, then 4 days after it finishing the backache is there? Why after?!!

It's day 2 of the achy back and really annoying me, I'm propped up with 3 huge pillows here to help and it still hurts!!!

Does anyone else get this?

Why would you think that a pain in your shoulder is from Endo? I really don't think it would cause pain there as womb linig can't travel up to your shoulder. Has a doctor ever told you you have endo? I had it before I had DS. I never knew I had it until I had a laparoscopy but I did always have very very painful periods which is often a sign. Not sure about the back ache tbh but haven't heard of that in connection to endo, not as bad as you have it anyway.

I think it's pretty uncommon to get endo pain in your back, but in principle you could get it anywhere. I was in hospital with a woman who had it in her knee. Does a hot bath not help at all? I find heat very effective for the pain. You don't have an infra-red lamp at home, do you?

If you say it's that bad you could consider calling a doctor out who would presumably have painkillers in her/his kit. Some years ago I did my back in so badly I couldn't move - spent several hours lying on the floor until the doctor arrived, who gave me a strong injection of diclofenac. That relaxed the muscles pretty well for 12 hours and got me moving again. I don't think my own back problems are connected with endo in any way, though.

Wishing you relief from the pain...

Thanks for the replies, the back pain has gone for now, I can still feel it but the pain has gone, TG!

I've seen two different doctors about this, I was prescribed something for the pain, to take before it comes, but I really don't know when it will! Both said it was endo, and to see how long I can 'handle' the pain, if I find it's too much they will refer me and look more into it.

Just googled, back-ache = endo and this came up, seems I'm not alone.

If it is that bad then they should refer you so you can have laser treatment. Thats what I had and then I got pregnant after. We had problems ttc so thats when they found I had endo.

blinks · 02/01/2010 19:31

you can get referred pain there from the uterus/womb.

do you have other symptoms of endo?

Claire2009 · 02/01/2010 23:23

I conceived & had DD & DS in France, took 2yrs to conceive DD though, and yet I was preg with DS when she was 5mths old?! Have struggled to conceive since then, not trying but would like another iukwim.

I don't think I have any other symptoms, I occassionaly get pain around my cs scar area for a couple of hours, not every month though, I thought that was ovulation but I'm not sure as it's very irregular.

I think I will ask for a referral as the pain was the worst ever the other day.

typically you would have more symptoms but trouble conceiving can be the only indicator.

levels of pain/severity of symptoms often don't mirror how severe the endo is so the only way of knowing is a laparoscopy.

i've had 2 and they're not too bad- i conceived both my children after laser treatment during the second laparoscopy.

Claire2009 · 02/01/2010 23:50

So what it be worth me having a laparoscopy? I'm just 25.

OP posts:
blinks · 03/01/2010 00:12

it depends.

if you're having problems conceiving another child it'd be worth getting referred to a fertility specialist who will test for other causes first.

has your partner been checked?

do you get the shoulder pain regularly and does it seem linked to your cycle? is that why you're thinking it may be endo?

i had my first laparoscopy at around 25... think i was younger actually but i hadn't had any children yet.

Claire2009 · 03/01/2010 01:06

He's not been checked, but he has had no trouble conceiving before. He has 2 older kids from previous.

I normally get the shoulder pain about a week before my period, it stays till my period arrives, occassionally the pain stays throughout the period. What I found strange with the last one was there was no back pain, then all of a sudden it was there 4 days after my period finishing?! That was new to me!

my endo pain isn't always the same. it tends to happen around 10 days before my period's due... i don't get bad period pain at all so that's not typical bit i definately have it.

i'd ask for some tests to rule out other things and mention endo and poss referred pain to your shoulder.

i had severe referred shoulder pain after giving birth so i know it can happen.

good luck with it.

Coldhands · 04/01/2010 19:54

I had 2 laparoscopies, the second one with the laser treatment and conceived DS a few months later. Your doctor will have to investigate 'infertility' and then refer you. You have to have been actively trying for at least a year though. Not sure what happens when you already have 2 DCs.

Claire2009 · 04/01/2010 22:50

Thanks. I had the shoulder pain before having dc's but never this bad, after Ds (2.8yo now) my periods have been hell and so has the pain.
