and how did you treat it?

Where do you have it? Try body brushing, exfoliation.

Tizzyjacko · 30/12/2009 14:35

My DH and DS2 have this on the backs of their arms and thighs. Exfoliation is the key, they use those nylon puff jobs in the shower. Had to warn DS who is 16 not to rub too hard, lightly but daily works for him.

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 30/12/2009 14:37

flexitol also gets rid although it feels quite greasy.

Jux · 30/12/2009 15:08

I have this too. I asked my gp about it when I was a sensitive teen and he just said it was 'poor circulation' adn gave me a look, which embarrassed me so much I never dared ask again. I've spent almost my whole life thinking it was just one of those things...

I'll get some flexitol.

StealthPolarBear · 30/12/2009 15:09

ohh me too on the tops of my arms

AuntyMartha · 30/12/2009 15:59

what is flexitol?
DS has it badly on his arms and upper thighs and on his face a bit

flexitol is cream for hard skin on feet. It works on spotty arms as well.

AuntyMartha · 30/12/2009 18:33

Oh right!

....but flexitol has done nothing for my bumpy arms . Anyone have any other ideas?

ThatVikRinA22 · 11/07/2010 18:15

me too. exfoliation and age seem to have helped. i also use self tan and i dont shave my thighs anymore, that always seemed to make it worse. might give the flexitol a go.

diamondsandtiaras · 11/07/2010 18:45

I've got it on my arms and so does DD1......I've found that exfoliating and moisturising helps the rough feeling of it, but doesn't get rid of the redness. The only thing that really makes a difference to mine is the sun......I obviously need to move abroad!

nightcat · 11/07/2010 18:48

I am currently using urea cream for my ds (based on my own reads), who is also gluten-free. Some people on gluten-free diet have managed to make it go away (seen it mentioned on gluten free forum). In my ds case (4 years on the diet) the spots are so much better and fewer but still there, derm at a London hosp (we see him for other skin stuff) had no advice at all.
From what I have read, it's something to do with cross-linking proteins, but circulation def plays the part.

I have had flax seed oil recommended to me, still to try it though.
Have bought flexitol for my feet and it's urea cream so tempted to give that a go

Jacksmama · 16/07/2010 16:13

DS has it on his face and his upper arms, poor little boo.

We took him to a paediatric dermatologist who diagnosed KP. He also recommended Eucerin and gentle exfoliation.

He said it's due to, essentially, hair follicles that are too tight. When skin cells slough off, they plug the follicles and cause the bumps. In DS's case (he is only 2.5 yo) he said DS would probably outgrow it.

Apparently it is genetic. The dermatologist looked at both DH's any my upper arms and asked us if we'd ever had bumps and we both had, so poor DS got a double genetic dose. DH and I are both exfoliation nuts so we're pretty smooth.

I've read on a KP support board that using coconut oil (the solid kind) to moisturize sometimes helps, and according to a friend who is a naturopath, ingesting a tablespoon of coconut oil daily can get rid of KP. I haven't tried this as getting a tablespoon of solid oil into my picky eater isn't very likely.

clarebear1 · 16/07/2010 16:39

Yeh my DD is 4 and me and DH have it, and grandad so double genetic dose here too. Its horrible for the littlens coz you cant exactly exfoliate them can you, bless their lil spots!
