Hi am wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and can offer some advice.
I have 2 DC, during second pregnancy I had the new standardized blood test testing for chicken pox immunity. (the test wasn't available when I was pregnant with DC1)
Shockingly, mine came back showing that I had no immunity against chicken pox and I had a strict letter from the hospital saying that I must stay away from anywhere that may pose a risk.
I was given lots of information and realized how dangerous chicken pox in pregnancy can be if you have no immunity. I was told that if I had suspected chicken pox of believed I had been exposed I was to be hospitalized immediately.
Anyway, I managed to keep a low profile and luckily made it through and had healthy DC 2
But here's the thing, I had chicken pox when I was 3 years old (confirmed by Dr), and medical staff could not understand why I had no immunity against it despite having it as a child.
Anyway, we are thinking of going for DC3 and this is clearly something we need to sort out before getting pregnant.
I understand that there's a chicken pox vaccination but it's not openly available on the NHS if I understand correctly? Is it even available in the UK? I've spoken to my health visitor but she didn't have much info and confessed it's very rare to have no immunity in adulthood so she really didn't know.
There's so much contradicting information on the web and I don't know where to get accurate advice from.
Has anyone else been in this situation and what did you do?
Many thanks
