Need tips on how to nitty-gritty my own hair. Dh is rubbish.

He seems to take wild swings at my head with the comb, tearing at great clumps of hair while not actually combing anything out. I despair of him doing it properly, and I'm sure that that's why nits keep coming back. I do dd's hair and am confident that I do a decent job at it. And yet the fuckers keep reappearing!

Does anyone have advice on how to thoroughly nit comb your own hair if you are the only competant adult in the house? I tried but I feel like how can I do this when I can't see it? Just comb and comb and comb?

Help. I cannot stand dh going all Happy Gilmore with a nitty-gritty anymore. Am going to end up bald or demented.

can you just nuke them with nit shampoo as well as him combing?

I put conditioner on dry hair, partition it as best I can and comb it in section, start at the back and work upwards.

Are you sure your dd is not getting reinfected from another source rather than from you?

I would also agree with the blast yourself with some solution if you have live lice.

My dh is also useless at nitty gritty combing, have had friends do my hair before now.

Have done! I have also done the olive oil drowning, washed all bedding, frozen stuffed animals...I just put tea tree oil in our conditioner in the hopes that it would help. The problem is that virtually nothng kills the eggs, you've got to manually remove them. Argh!

I always do my own - wouldn't let DH near for exactly same reason. Use electric nit comb occasionly, usualy only used on dh and ds's short hair - zaps any live ones, brought from Lloyds chemists for £10.

Conditioner on dry hair? I have been doing it on wet. Will try that next time.

at least you can watch TV at the same time. Cheap conditioner best as it's runnier.

Electric nit comb! I've never heard of such a thing. I'll have to see if that's available in the US.

I've done my own by putting on a ton of conditioner then carefully combing through a section a time then clipping the 'done' sections out of the way. I cleared up pretty much straight away.

However, it took over a year to clear DD1 because it turned out that her best friend was crawling with the little buggers and her mother wasn't bothering to treat her so she kept on sharing
