DIY Dentistry

Has anyone ever used those DIY dentistry kits you can buy in Boots etc

I broke a tooth last week, tooth has large filling in it. Got an emergency dental appointment and dentist removed part of the tooth and applied a temporary filling (powdery stuff that tasted of cloves) which fell out the same day. Told me to make an appointment in the new year to get a filling. The earliest appointment I could get was February!

Tooth is really annoying me now. Sharp edge and feels a bit 'tender' - frightened to eat on it in case filling dislodges so have eaten Xmas dinner etc on one side of my mouth...also feels a bit sore when I drink anything cold...

Is it worth getting one of the little kits and trying to make my own temporary filling - or could I cause further harm?

Please help!

The kit will probably work, but TBH I'd be making more of a fuss at the dentists- a 4 week wait for failed teatment is out of order- you need to be seen NOW! as an emergency. Demand an appt within the next 7 days at most!

I had a problem with a chiped tooth on holiday abroad and was seen within 2 days of phoning my dentist when I came home - and she only works 2 days a week!

I'd be making a fuss and demanding an emergency appointment.

My uncle had a severe phobia of dentists. If toothache got too bad, he'd yank the tooth out with a pair of pliers. That's pretty extreme DIY dentistry!!!

PP thanks - I think the problem is that the day I was at the dentist there was tons and tons of snow here and everywhere shut early and not been open since cos of Xmas...the treatment was only meant to be temporary until I could make a proper appointment - unfortunatley I am going away tomorrow for New Year but I will be phoning the dentist as soon as they reopen after that - you're right it is too long to wait.

Good luck- you can always try the DIY kit meanwhile.

if they havent got it ,they can order it in same day for you.

better still, go to the dentist and ask for a stick of the temporary filling that you melt in hot water. Its a white stick about 3 inches long and you dip it in hot water til pliable and then push it in the hole.then it sets.Thats the least he could do for you
