I get dry skin at this time of the year and use Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. It is very expensive but you only use a tiny bit. It also smells lovely and is not visible when applied.

It is very gentle, soothing and also works with sunburn.

oh lovely, presumabley safe up your nose then?

thanks.

I would use vaseline but any moisturising cream should be OK.

DS2 has this and we have really struggled to find a cure. We went to the GP and he prescribed an antibiotic cream but it did not work.

We use E45 cream or Neutrogena Norwegian cream twice a day around the end of the nostril and inside slightly. He gets dry skn around his mouth too and we put ot on there too. It is much worse in winter. Vaseline does not seem to work very well.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone else who has struggled with this as it really annoys DS. He says it itches all the time and he rubs it and it makes it worse.

i did google but was told No to vasline and some form of antibiotic cream, which would mean a trip to gp's, ,
antiseptic cream was a big NO No, it stung hugely.
when dd3 was a baby i heard that not to use vasline as it has drying properties.

i had this on holiday, think the salty air aggrevated it. i used something called bactroban (i think) that was previously prescribed for something else i had.

I get this on and off, as my nostrils are a bit damaged after chemo. If it becomes really bad, I get antibiotic ointment from the doctors. I've also been prescribed dermol 500, which is an anti-bacterial lotion, with moisturiser. To keep the skin from getting cracked and allowing bacteria in. I think that might be prescription only as well.

I got this when I was pregnant (nose bleeds too) - lansinoh works a treat (vaseline, which one of my pregnancy books recommended, smelled too horrible).

Vaseline

cornysxmasmuffmusic · 22/12/2009 15:39

8 hour cream

Arsed · 22/12/2009 15:39

I get some strange Staph infection up my nose from time to time and the dr gives me a cream called Naseptin that you have to apply with a cotton bud.

Your Dr should take some swabs.

Sore corners of the mouth are from a deficiancy if B Vitamins. Drink Berocca daily and you will be sorted out in no time.

For the sore nose, buy some Happinose balm. Its usually for when you have a cold and keep blowing it and it gets sore round the edges, as its got menthol in it, but it helps with sore skin even when you have no cold. Won't irritate the nasal lining.

SlartyBartFast · 22/12/2009 20:42

thanks for all that.

i dont think i need vitamin B as i eat watercress and spinach and rocket salad every day, but perhaps i do drink too much tea and coffee which might counteract those greens

go back to doc and ask for bactroban nasal ointment or naseptin as arsed said. if it is bleeding you probably have a staph infection.
