What will clear up dry skin at corners of lips?

Hi - My DH has dry skin round the corners of his lips - not cold sores. Doesn't matter what he puts on it it does n't seem to clear. He has tried moisturiser and E45 which did n't work and on holiday he got some cream from pharmacist called Bacisporin. This has not cleared it either. We are off skiing soon and want to try and get in clear before then as it may get worse. Does anyone have any ideas what might do it? Thanks very much

Vaseline, frequently.

Or Blisteze/ex(?) intensive.

brimfull · 21/12/2009 23:32

You could try sudocrem overniight to see if that helps

or elizabeth arden 8 hr cream
or aloe vera gel
or vitamin e capsules broken and the oil out on

just a few suggestions-no idea what would work

doesn't dry skin in that area indicate a deficiency in something??

brimfull · 21/12/2009 23:34

I googled cracked mouth corner and this came up

alypaly · 21/12/2009 23:34

is it at the very corners.

brimfull · 21/12/2009 23:36

sorry here

I love lipbalm that has real beeswax in it. My favourite brand is Burt's Bees, and there must be a shop near you that sells it.... or try looking online. It really does the trick, whereas all other salves I have tried just seem "waxy" and don't actually moisturise the lips if you know what I mean.

I can't recommend this brand of lotions/lipbalms highly enough. A friend gave me a big tub of lotion containing beeswax and other lovely natural ingredients when I discovered I was pregnant, and it has really helped with the itchy/dry skin all over my abdomen!

SlartyBartFast · 21/12/2009 23:54

ayclovir?
vaseline?
savelon?

i had this and tried a combination of all of the above.
however i think sudocream is recommended, but had lost mine

sometimes you can get thrush at the corners of the mouth.

You can get it even if you are not on inhalers.
Pharmacists are not allowed to recommend daktacort for that ailment as it does not have a licence for the mouth area, but doc could prescribe it for you

choosyfloosy · 22/12/2009 00:04

in my experience, upping the vitamin b12 in the diet, but i'm sure there would be more than one cause for this.

Cadelaide · 22/12/2009 00:09

Yes, vitamin B12 ime

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 22/12/2009 00:19

yep. take vitamins and it might well go.

SlartyBartFast · 22/12/2009 08:31

actually you can get oral daktarin, but that didnt work for me.

alypaly · 22/12/2009 08:58

the gel is for inside the mouth as it has a specially porperty for adhering to the mucus membram=nes. it doesnt work very well on the outside....we have never had good results at the pharmacy for mouth corners ,but we have with daktacort(but get it on prescription because of the reasons i said before)

Botbot · 22/12/2009 09:00

Blistex is the only thing that gets rid of this nasty winter lip-cracky thing for me. I swear by it.

MrsMorgan · 22/12/2009 09:05

I get this alot. At the moment I am using Oilatum cream on it. I put a tiny amount on each morning and night and it pretty much keeps it at bay.

I tried the vitamin thing, but it didn't seem to work for me. The weather effects mine alot.

lazymumofteenagesons · 22/12/2009 11:30

Lather the sudocrem on at night. It is magic healing cream.

welshdeb · 22/12/2009 15:10

This is a symptom of vit b deficiency.

SlartyBartFast · 22/12/2009 23:05

yes, a pharmacist told me sudocream.

I used to suffer from this a lot, the only thing that cleared it up for me was Brulidine applied daily, the normal lip balms just didn't work.

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 22/12/2009 23:09

heres an idea....if it doesnt clear why not see a doctor?

SlartyBartFast · 22/12/2009 23:19

how clever vicar

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 22/12/2009 23:27
