Sudden worsening of section scar and spd...

my baby is a month old (sorry for rubbish typing, she is sleeping on my elbow) and in the last couple of days my section scar has suddenly started stinging as well as my hips hurting more than they have been since she was about a week old (I had spd when pregnant). Is it just a sign that I am overdoing it or should I be concerned?

Yup, you need to slow down. You should have some diclofenac left from after you had the section, take those for 24 hours and take it easy. You'll be fine.

Whomovedmychocolate - I just got sent home with paracetamol. I do have some codeine left from when I was pregnant though, presumably if it was ok when pregnant, it will be ok when bf?

herbie - I hope I'm not coming on, not only am I bf, but the bleeding from the birth has only just stopped. I'm hoping this isn't the best the spd will get, I still have a noticeable limp and it hurts to turn over in bed or go round corners on buses and so on.

Meh. I was really happy with my healing till now. Still, I'm loving being able to walk unaided at all, so I should count my blessings.

Yes codeine is fine. I probably only get diclofenac because I can't have codeine.

However watch out for sudden increases in blood loss or foul smelling discharge because uterine infections can happen about this point and need prompt treatment.

I tore some internal stitches gardening at four weeks post partum with DD (EMCS) and it bloody hurt for quite a while!!!

Thanks. It is hard to take it easy with a baby, toddler and christmas to think of!

If I were you I'd get your scar looked at before Christmas is upon us and the doctors surgeries all shut up shop. Can you get an emergency appointment for tomorrow? It's probably just that you need to rest up, but best to rule out an infection.

Agree with getting someone to look at the scar.

I had SPD during the pregnancy which I thought had gone after the birth. Also had an EMCS that I thought was healing well!

Ended up having a mild infection on the scar which stung and began to smell a bit funny (can you get someone to get closer to it and have a whiff?). I desperately didn't want to take antibiotics due to breastfeeding, so it was treated with an external cream and had to lie down and let it air a few times a day (not easy to get the time, I know!)

The SPD did seem better, but carrying DS around in the baby carrier seems to have made it worse again. I've had to see the osteopath again for it just recently. Definitely try to rest up!
