I do have a GP apt booked but has anyone else had extreme bouts of bleeding? What can cause it?

I'm expecting GP's response to be to place me on hormonal contraceptives to control the beed, in the first instance.

I'm strongly opposed to them, personally. I developed PCOS symptoms after taking Depo, years ago and had a similar reaction with the patch.

Ugh, just want to chat through options and ideas before I see GP, who is unfamiliar to me. Own GP not available until the new year and I'm far too exhausted to wait any longer.

I have no idea, I'm afraid but blimey - 4 and a half weeks . You have all my sympathy- hope it gets sorted out quickly.

Hi I take the contraceptive pill and last year I took two packets back to back because we were going to New York and did not want the hassle of a period whilst over there. I have done this before not very often maybe once a year if my period coincides with a holiday, never had any problems. Been taking the pill for years.

But this time I bled anyway for 6 weeks! It was awful, quite heavy for 3 weeks and then spotting for another 3. I saw the Gp who said to come back if it did not stop after the next break in my pack. Luckily it did and the Gp called it a 'hormonal blip'!

It was awful but thankfully has not happened again and I took my last 2 packets back to back and no problem.

Hope you sort it out soon.

Thank you both.

Newpup, if I'm told to come back for any reason there's no way I'll agree. Can't see my way through the school hols without having this sorted out! Different scenario to yours but thanks for the heads up
