I have gouged out a piece of my finger and need to know how to dress it

I did it this morning on a piece of wood, it's clean but quite deep and it is on the top of the knuckle.

It bled a lot initially and I stuck a plaster on but being my RH index finger it is getting wet a lot and I've changed it twice - both times it started to bleed again.

Should I leave it to heal itself, or put another plaster on, splint it or keep using it?

Any tips on keeping it dry?

Thanks.

Sounds sore!

If plasters don't work for me, I'd wrap my finger in tissue and use a plaster to hold it in place. I'd try and keep it still for a while at least, so it has a chance to heal itself, rather than keep re-opening it.

Thankyou! Ok will try tissue and a bit of tape above and below. Trouble is - how do you do anything like washing up, changing nappy etc!!

With great difficulty is the short answer!

The irony of this thread is that my hands are now covered in plasters due to an exploding glass.

buy a piece od duoderm and cut it to size. leave it on for up to 5 days. if you want to protect it more buy some fingercots. They are like mini durex that you put on your finger

Thankyou Aly, you have the knowledge!! Thankfully it has healed a bit overnight without anything on, so am going to chance it a bit...ha ha will probably open up again, never mind.

Kaloki how weird, I hope you are not too injured
Thankyou again for your advice and sorry a similar fate has befallen you. Do you think we are living parallel lives?

lol, it appears so! Think I'm going to have a bit of a scar, but for now I'm more worried by the fact our pets rats seem to like eating plasters
