Could this pain be caused by adhesions after two c sections?

I have pain in my lower back and stomach, mostly on one side, but it is generally uncomfortable throughout my pelvic area. It started six weeks after my periods resumed, and comes and goes in intensity, some days I have no pain at all but it is present on most days.

I have been treated for a kidney infection, it made no difference. I also made the mistake of googling my symptoms and am now scared I have ovarian cancer

Just wondered if anyone has had pain like this that turned out to be non fatal? I am a terribly worrier (have received treatment for health anxiety in the past).

The other option I thought of is scar endometriosis.

I do have an appointment with a doctor, but not until thursday and I am panicking a bit.

Please try not to panic. No more googling of symptoms either!.

I've had virtually the same symptoms leading up to a period in the past and in my case it was due to endometriosis. Pelvic pain is a classic symptom of endo particularly if it is cyclical in nature. It is also the second most common gynae problem seen in women after fibroids.

Adhesions as well can cause organs to be tethered together and cause pain. Also adhesions can have endometriosis deposits stuck to them.

I wish you well, again this is far more likely to be due to a problem of this nature
than ovarian cancer.

thank you so much

mumsnet is great, I really appreciate your taking time out of your life to reassure me.

I think I will try to arrange a scan as soon as possible, and in the meantime I will stay away from google. I knew I shouldn't as I was doing it, yet I still did

Yes, have had right sided abdo pain and lower back/hip pain on and off for hte past couple of months - started off worrying about bowels, then googled and came to the same conclusion as you

Finally saw both gastroenterologist (GP's idea) and gynae (my idea) last week, and whilst the gynae thought it was good that I came for a check-up (had lots of fertility tx) my scan was fine and no problems. Ditto gastro, who said possibly IBS, probably back related in my case as its fine at night lying down, but worse driving/bending (I have sacro-iliac stiffness after an old injury).

But I've also had 2 c-sections and did wonder about adhesions...

Do get a scan, it'll reassure you properly, but in the meantime its true: far more likely to be endo, IBS, or adhesions than anything else!

Thanks Elibean, it is interesting that yours is worse when driving - that is when I get really bad.

This is making me feel better

I had left sided servere abdo pain about 3 yrs after my first c-section, scan showed cysts which they thought was the pain but when I had an lapocop to remove them , they found adhesions from the start of belly button to my ovaries.
My right tube was also twisted and stuck !!
after having all the adhensions removed all the pain went within a fortnight.

A external/internal scan does not show adhesions up...

Now after having my second c-section a year later the pain has returned 5 times worse with sharp stabbing pains going down my left leg. I find it worse when bending over or getting up quick from laying down.

The surgeon did say that they could return so looks like its another trip to see him

Hope you get the help you need

Scans will not detect endometriosis either as the endometrical deposits are very tiny.

It may be that laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery will be suggested for both endo and or adhesions. No drug treatment will be effective on adhesions once they are formed, they need to be surgically removed.

I have this and have an apoint to see dr. Had a section 3 yrs ago and suffer severe pain from ovulation to period. Is on my left side, radiates to back, down leg, sometimes is unbearable. I was preg earlier this yr but mc at 9 wks, when i had an internal scan they checked for a cyst - nothing found. The pain was unbearable at times during scan.

I am starting to think it is either adhesions or endo. Not luck with ttc either months later.

I actually felt something burst when i stood up the day after my section. It felt as if a stictch has popped inside and i could feel gushing/warmth. This is the exact centre of ny pain, which makes me wonder about a prob with my womb repair? Maybe becomes more painful i leadeup to period as is swollen/tender?

They were very dismissive of me when i told the this in hospital and my gp has so far been unconcerned. After 3 years the pain is getting worse - i have been doubled up today (due on tomo), and hence am going to demand furteher investigations.

Useful posts here btw.

I had a c section in 2006 and when my periods returned i noticed that i had pain during ovulation and the first few days of my period each time..like a deep sore ache around my hip and lower back on one side.

themachinist · 17/12/2009 20:37

a deep sore ache - I hear you! Exactly.
Do you know what it was maybebaby23?

maybebaby23 · 17/12/2009 21:13

Nope don't know what it is, i didn't think about adhesions until i read this! God knows whats stuck together inside me then! From my first period after the section until i got pregnant again last April (currently 38 weeks with DD2), i had the same wierd ache every month for the first couple of days of my period and also at ovulation. It was really sore at ovulation for a whole day, sometimes two And always around my right hip going down into lower back and front.
