...on the scalp/hair do?

I workout (and get incredibly sweaty) 3/4 times per week.

I don't wash my hair after every workout - probably once in 1/2 weeks.

Does anyone know of any effects this could have on my scalp/hair?

Thanks in advance.

doesn't it get itchy?

and smelly?

well if this is a regular pattern and you haven't noticed anything amiss on your scalp so far (apart from sweat and aroma) then really I'm sure all is well.

My scalp does get itchy sometimes - can't say as it smells, though.

I'm shedding hair at a rapid rate and moreso when it's washed - hence minimal washing frequency.

Just wondering if I'm doing more harm than good.

The hair shedding may be nothing to do with the sweat from the work outs. Have you a young baby ? I have 4 dcs and after 1 of the births in particular I lost more than the usual amount of hair - but that was just making up for the extra luxuriant pregnancy growth which had gone before, and eventually it sorted itself out !

Maybe you should see a dermatologist for advice ?

I have one son - he's 11!

Hair's been shedding (fast) the past 2 years.

I've seen a dermatologist and an endocrinologist, had blood tests and there's no apparent reason for loss.

It's really getting me down.

Sorry to hear that. are you anaemic ? Even a little ? I'm not a medic but I was told years ago that sometimes, since hair is "dispensable" it can shed a bit if the body is short of iron or other essential minerals.

I used to be anaemic, before I had my son.

After a year or so taking iron tablets, I was fine. Even then, my hair never suffered - was always so thick and strong.

GP tells me my iron levels are normal.

I eat a varied diet, so not sure which vit/minerals I would be lacking in.

Does anyone know if there's some test to find out?

Thanks, onestop, and to anyone else who replies.
