I have already had a thread about this but am still worried about DD, and would be grateful of opinion of any Dr or nurse
DD (3) has been unwell since Tuesday. She saw GP with temp 39.5c despite calpol. She diagnosed a very bad ear infection and possibly a UTI, and prescribed amoxycillin. She said to take DD to hospital if not better.
DD's temp became normal on Thurs, but she seems much more unwell. Spoke to duty Gp on fri who said to take her to hospital if concerned, so we did.
DD perked up there and seemed fine, so they said just to keep up the amoxycillin but once home just lay on sofa again seeming very ill.
Yesterday she was even worse and slept all day, looking v ill and vomiting when she woke. She brightened up briefly a couple of times.
Temp is still normal. We were to get a urine sample but dd has asd and won't pee without nappy.
Anyway, given normal temp, should i just wait it out? Don't want to waste hospital time but am worried. Thanks

Really tricky without seeing her but if temp ok and she seems OK I would encourage fluids - little and often and let her eat if she wants to and continue with antibiotics.

If she seems more poorly to you then get her seen again.

That's not terribly helpful is it?

As a GP I really don't mind seeing little ones as often as needed as they can change so quick and develop infections on top of other infections, so no one will mind if you want to get her checked out again. I also tend to trust what parents say so if a mum is worried, that makes me more worried. You know your little one best!

If it helps at all I completely lose objectivity with my boys and have to defer to our GP/out of hours. Hope she is feeling a bit better today.

Hi. I'm not a dr or nurse, but I too have a DS with ASD. He is now 8, but when he was around your DD age he used to have a lot of ear infections. It is quite common for kids with ASD to react badly to illness, my DS used to "shut down" when he was ill. Its as though all their energy is being used up fighting the illness, so everyday, normal behaviour, (which is such an effort for them anyway), conversation and interaction suffer. At least she's taking the antibiotics, my DS would never take any medication and could detect it if smuggled into food / drink.
Good luck. Hope someone knowledgable comes along soon.

thanks both of you.
They did say at the hospital that she could have a stomach bug too. I have just had terrible diarrhoea and vomiting so perhaps that's true!
Getting no sympathy from DH as it was my work xmas party last night, but this doesn't seem drink-induced.

Going to bump this as waiting for GP to call me and am worried still. DD seems even worse, temp is normal but she is just lying there either sleeping or half asleep, she is coughing constantly so that's obviously part of it, but have never seen her this ill.

Don't want to be rushing her up to A and E with a normal temp though.

ok, in case anyone is reading, Gp gave her different antibiotics for her cough, lets hope they help.

She perked up there again and is now looking a bit brighter

Do you think she could be a bit dehydrated after vomiting etc? This can make them very lathargic.
I would give fluids, ice pops and the like, keep up with the calpol in case of pain or discomfort.
Bless her, sounds like combination of trotts, vomiting and a bad cough. Antibiotics can upset the tummy as well.
Just get fluids into her.
Hugs to you, its awful when they are poorly, luckily they bounce back very quickly.

Thanks!

She isn't dehydrated as she has been drinking non stop.

I am not keen on giving her more antibiotics, I have to say, esp since her temp was normal but will have to I suppose.
