I have had adult acne for years. Not really badly but just spotty on and off - on my face, my chest and my back. It's really knocked my self-confidence. I have been prescribed endless drugs/creams/lotions and been to see three different dermatologists and nothing has ever worked for long.

But I have been following the regime on the acne.org website as you recommended for the last 3 weeks and it's a bloody miracle! My skin has never looked better. I could kiss you. Am so, so grateful

Thankyou....

spicemonster, I know you posted this ages ago but I just want you to know I have seen it, and I'm really chuffed you found my recommendation helpful! It was lovely of you to post back about it Grin

kneehightoagrasshopper · 26/08/2010 21:14

I have just seen this and am have just tried to buy some benzoyl peroxide and get started Grin

Only thing is, I can't find straight benzoyl peroxide cream - is panoxyl aquagel the same stuff? Where do you buy yours from/what's it called please?

barbarapym · 26/08/2010 21:23

I have used 'the regimen' too with great success. You can get it online -expresschemist etc - panoxyl is the brand most widely available here. Or most chemists stock it but you need to ask for it. Don't be tempted to go stronger than the 2.5% recommended.

AnyFuleKno · 26/08/2010 21:24

Yes, that is 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide so that should work.

The most important bits - clean your skin gently, don't use too of the gel to start with, and spend AGES massaging it in.

My skin is still clear now and I did this four years ago for about six months (skin cleared up within a few weeks)

AnyFuleKno · 26/08/2010 21:25

don't use too much* of the gel to start with

kneehightoagrasshopper · 26/08/2010 21:25

thanks barbarapym, am going to order some now :) thank you (am ridiculously excited!)

Oh, and what moisturizer do you use? I use any cheap stuff, someone has recently recommended Olay's 7 signs for spot prone skin, should I use something oilier than ths? And do you use a night moisturiser and a day moisturiser? I've only ever applied one at night.

Thanks.

kneehightoagrasshopper · 26/08/2010 21:30

crossposts AnyFuleKno. thank you :)

AnyFuleKno · 26/08/2010 21:31

I used Clarins but I don't think it matters too much - just don't put it on your spotty areas - for me it would have been chin and nose. I never moisturise these bits now as they are oily anyway.

barbarapym · 28/08/2010 15:07

I used cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser - really gentle - again you can often get them online if your chemist doesn't stock them. Good luck - it really works!

TheLifeOfRiley · 28/08/2010 15:16

Ooooohh - I like this sound of this, am gonna give it a go! Smile

DetectivePotato · 28/08/2010 18:14

I've suffered with spots on my face since teens.

No creams or antibiotics worked.

Going to give this a try! Thanks.

Where exactly do I get the cream and what is it called?

AnyFuleKno · 28/08/2010 18:44

detectivepotato, you need benzoyl peroxide in a 2.5% concentration - panoxyl aquagel is a recommended brand, but you can just ask in the chemists. It is very cheap in comparison to the ranges of acne skincare you see in boots (all of which are worthless in my experience).

Strongly recommend you take a look at acne.org as there are detailed instructions on there and some fab before and after photos

DetectivePotato · 28/08/2010 19:21

Thank you very much. Will be off to the chemists as soon as I can be. Smile

Jaquelinehyde · 28/08/2010 19:41

I have just ordered 3 packs online after reading this thread.

Fingers crossed for some results as I hate my skin and have suffered sonce I was 12 with it. My Mum suffered her whole life as well and I really don't want to get to 60 and still have acne!

AnyFuleKno · 28/08/2010 19:54

good luck, let us know how you get on

Jux · 28/08/2010 20:16

Would you say there was a lower age limit for using this? DD's just 11 and has broken out, is very self-conscious and worried as she's about to go up to secondary and she doesn't want to be known as 'the spotty one'.

I've got her some Biactol which is helping btw. Maybe this is a bit of a strong measure atm?

mizu · 28/08/2010 20:27

Ordered some, hope it works. I have had acne - jawline, neck from time to time, and cheeks - for the last 19 years since i was at uni. It comes and goes and at the moment it is vile. The sun used to clear it up but it seems to be now making it worse. I hate it. I am a teacher, albeit adults, and hate to be in front of a class when i get them. Some of them are so painful too.

AnyFuleKno · 28/08/2010 20:52

jux, on the contrary it's more gentle than most methods, that's why it works. When I was a teenager with spots, my doctor prescribed benzoyl peroxide at 30% concentration and it burnt the crap out of my skin. Needless to say I gave up on it. I really really wish I had done this years ago as it would have saved a lot of scarring (not horrendous by any means but enough to mean that I feel self conscious).

mizu good luck, I know exactly how you feel - I lived with my spots from 14 to 30 years old and I thought I would always have them. I wouldn't have believed that the answer was so easy.

DetectivePotato · 28/08/2010 21:53

I'm assuming a cream like this is safe when you are pregnant? Creams don't effect you do they?

AnyFuleKno · 28/08/2010 22:05

can't see why not as it's only on your skin.

Jux · 29/08/2010 17:31

Thanks AnyFule, I'll see how it goes.

collision · 29/08/2010 17:34

would this regime work on roseacea.........I am a bit desperate but dont want to make it worse

MollysChambers · 29/08/2010 17:37

Can I jump in here and say if it doesn't work ask GP about Roaccutane. After a certain age (30+) it is about the only thing that will work - so I've been told by a dermatologist.

collision · 29/08/2010 17:39

Roaccutane worked on me too but you cannot use it more than once or twice in your life and my skin is now currently at its worst!
