hi

i have been having severe night sweats every night for about 2 months now.
i wake several times a night pouring with sweat, then i take all the covers off and eventually cool down again then it happens again. i wake up feeling boiling and hot flush like. i never get it in the day.

last night i woke up after an hour in bed and was drenched like never before- it was pouring down me and the bedding was so sodden i had to then sleep on a couple of towels.

the thing is this is a completely new thing for me. i never ever ever feel hot in bed and am usually wrapped up in layers and layers. i am sleeping naked now which i have never done before!

would the gp think i was stupid if i went to see her about it? i am 34 thank you xx

are you suffering from anxiety?
if not i would go and ask for hormone level blood test incase you are starting with early menopause

CMOTdibbler · 10/12/2009 09:38

I think you should def go and see the GP if you are not having hot flushes at any other time.

belcantwait · 10/12/2009 09:46

hmm i did wonder about menopause. periods are fine though. thought i did have a time last yr when all was a bit strange in that dept but they did a hysteroscopy to investigate and the prodding around seemed to sort it out!

no not anxious. am generally so laid back i am horizontal lol

belcantwait · 10/12/2009 09:52

ooh.thats weird. being ill but having no idea. i do have a bit of a cough for around a month or so that followed from horrible in bed type cold but think that may be now more to do with smoking than anything else!

Hi, I had these first years and years and years ago. Went to the docs and he tested me for TB . Well, obviously it wasn't that and they didn't really come up with anything. Was a bit cross that the doc said that it's natural to sweat a bit at night - like you, it was running down me in rivets and I had to put towels down cos the sheets were soaking. It only happened a few times back then, but it still happens to me every now and again. Not when I'm ill or anxious or anything. Can't find anything to link it to anything that's happening at that time in my life. Strange. Sorry, no help, but just to say I'll be interested in what your doctor says!

belcantwait · 10/12/2009 10:01

thanks fartmeister. yeah itcss horrid isnt it? i generally dont go to the gp very often about myself and when i do it s always something weird that needs lots of investigation. they prob think i'ma right hypochondriac! would just like to know what the hell is casuing it.
did they test your blood/ hormone levels like alypaly suggested?

This happens when I'm ill, even if I feel mostly fine in the day.

It happened a lot for a while, and I googled and came up with mild sleep apnoea, so I lost weight and the sweats disappeared. Don't know if it was that.

belcantwait · 10/12/2009 10:10

it s funny its notl ike the sweats you get when you have the flu or suchlike. dont know how to describe it now. hmmmmm

Please please go and see the GP asap. There are all sorts of possible explanations for this, most relatively innocuous, some not, but it is CERTAINLY not a symptom I would neglect (as it indicates a lymphatic system in overdrive for some reason) and your gp will not think you daft.

fartmeistergeneral · 10/12/2009 12:23

No I don't think they did any other tests apart from the one for TB. I think he thought I was over-reacting

I would probably go back if they happened regularly, like you are describing. I couldn't tell you when the last one was - certainly months and months ago.

Let me know how you get on!

diddl · 10/12/2009 12:58

I´m getting them at the moment-but am menopausal!

But giving up caffeine has helped.

GleeE4 · 03/01/2010 17:10

belcanwait

what was it in the end?

duende · 03/01/2010 20:58

bump. Interested to know what it was as I started having them recently too.
(I think it may have something to do with my thyroid but haven't seen my gp yet to ask)

GleeE4 · 03/01/2010 20:59

whre ISshe

agedknees · 03/01/2010 21:11

Could be:
menopause
pneumonia
TB
diabetes
thyroid problems

would be interested to know what was causing it.
