DS1 is egg allergic... GP only has Pandemrix. What now?

Has anyone been in this situation? DS1 has egg allergy and GP is saying he can't have sf jab as they only have Pandemrix. DS2 is only 7mo and hasn't eaten any egg yet so I'm reluctant to give him Pandemrix either.

Has anyone managed to get Celvapan in this situation, did you get it through GP, PCT, hospital or other?

Will be watching this with interest as have just found out that DD2 probably has egg allergy... just tried to speak to my surgery but the lady who answered the phone didn't know anything.

The GP should be able to source it from another surgery.

My surgery was telling me lies though as they did have Calvepan just didn't want me to have it as they need 10 people as thats what amount is in the vial.

I made them give me it though as I knew for a fact they had loads of it.

Thanks, my surgery has denied all knowledge of an egg-free alternative. Have put in a call to the PCT to see what their policy is.

There is definitely an egg-free alternative.
My GP spoke to me about it a couple of weeks back and offered it to my egg-allergic DD

Sorry I can't remember what he called it though.

They were discussing tjis on radio 4 last week. Each PCT has been given 1000 (IIRC) doses of the egg free alternative which can be requested by the individual surgeries.

Hopefullt your PCT will be of help tomorrow

Quick update on this. Spoke to someone at the PCT today who said that at the moment the vaccination of under-5s is on hold but that when it does start, there will be a clinic at the local hospital for those who need Celvapan because of egg allergy. Apparently my GP can refer my DC for this clinic. (Whether my GP knows anything about this is another matter!)

Hello there,
My DD has egg allergy and my GP surgery also only has Pandemrix but my GP said she'd put my daughter on egg allergy list which means they will request the egg free vaccine for her (and presumably others in the same situation). So ask your GP to do this. They MUST all cater for this kind of situation. THey cant' just say tough luck. (even though that is exactly what the receptionist at my GP surgery told me but as I wouldn't take that as acceptable answer I spoke to my GP and got completely different one!)
