Hi ladies

I really need some advice/input and I hope someone out there can help me!

Today I saw a gynae person at my local hospital for a rectocele. I have been aware of it for 2 years and it has got worse in the last 6 months. I really had to pluck up the courage to see my GP but it has been really getting me down. He referred me on for today's appointment.

The doc I saw was ok, but he took very little history and only general really (ie do I smoke, have diabetes etc) nothing to do with tampon retention, sex, incontinence etc

Not that I was dying to share! but I did expect it to be a bit more thorough.

But no less than 4 times he asked me if I had done my pelvic floor exercises during my two pregnancies. The answer is yes I did and I am lucky that I don't have any incontinence issues (not that he asked me about that)

Anyway he examined me and said I had a small cystocele (news to me) and the rectocele is much larger, well I knew that already.

He then said he would refer me for physio and see me again in 6 months. Said it would all be working on my pelvic floor muscles.

I must admit I now feel quite down about it. I am not dying to have surgery but I feel a but like he was saying it is my fault as I did not do my pelvic floors often enough and that's that.

I have had two big babies vaginally (10lbs and 11lbs) and it is since the second one who is now 4 that the problem started. I guess i think if 'that' muscle between your botty and love tunnel has started to split what good is pelvic floor exercises...

So my long winded question is, is there anyone out there who has had this treated with pelvic floor physio? What did they actually do? And did it work/improve things?

If anyone would be willing to share I would be really grateful. I am feeling pretty crap and like an old woman and I am only 33. I just want to be normal again.

Thanks to anyone who has read this far!

you will be taught to do the exercises properly adn they might use small electrodes to stimulate the muscles. I had it but it made little difference nd I had the op at 35 after 2 babies. It was done privately.

You might want to ask for referral to another gynae as my Gp bless him, thought my problem wasn't a problem and it took 2 gynaes to decide yes it was worth surgery.

Hi Purple

Thank so much for your reply. I had heard from someone else it might involve electrical things.

I didn't think my pelvic floor was too bad as I have no stress incontinence or anything like that, so like I said, not feeling hopeful that it will help much.

Do you mind me asking how bad your's was? Was it 'hanging out' or less severe? How did they decide you should have surgery?

Thanks again for the reply.
