Is bronchiectasis reversible? I thought not

DH was diagnosed with bronchiectasis earlier this year & we were not given a very good prognosis

He had another CAT scan last month and 'there was very little sign of any bronchiectasis'

That doesn't really make sense does it?

Or am I missing something?

The bronchiectatic changes should remain stable or worsen NOT improve on sequential CTs. No Bronchiectasis is not reversible and report doesn't appear to make sense.

Sounds like they need to review both CTs together.
Do you know what the bronchiectasis was attibuted to and /or how severe it was considered?

Katymac · 06/12/2009 23:18

It was considered fairly bad (as I understood from the Doctors & nurses I spoke to) it was potentially life threatening - they had no idea what caused it

But at clinic on Thursday we were told it was barely there, very minor and not significant

He is having a bronchoscopy lavage to check for mycobacterium on Friday

I am feeling a bit atm it doesn't make sense, does it?

Bronchiectasis

Could your DH have been more gravely ill due to infection at the time so CT appearances improved from that point of view?

Bronchiectasis is a change in the structure of the airways and in itself is not reversible.

Would be a good idea to ask for a direct comparism of old and new CT images.

I just don't know - he had chest infections at the time of both CT scans.....I think I need more info don't I?

They aid this on Thursday but it was only today when talking to my aunt that it really hit home - what they actually said

My Dad is going with him next week & he will find out what is going on

infection including mycobacteria could have made CT interpretation difficult . If minimal changes now - good news

Katymac · 06/12/2009 23:37

It is good news isn't it

It is really, really, really amazing news
