When you have heart flutters/skipped beats every few minutes what is it?

I know Im not having a heart attack
Ive tried cutting out caffine to no avail
Im not anemic
Im not particulary stressed

But I have little flutters every few minutes. It happened earlier on in the year for about 3 or 4 months. The above list was excuses that the doctor gave me last time, rather than sending me for further tests, even though there were irregularities when they did a trace of my heart.

They have just came back about a week ago and can make me feel a bit wheesy or can cause me to cough. I would say it happens over a hundred times a day and usually happen in clusters.

Does anybody have any idea of what it might be caused by. Its hard to explain what actually happens, which is why I think the doctor palmed me off last time.

have you had your thyroid tested? i had over active thyroid and used to have mild palpitations, and sometimes feel like my heart was racing.

Oh they done that last time when they done my bloods, it was all normal.

The only thing that came back abnormal was that I was slightly anemic. Doctor put me on iron tablets, which to be fair stopped me getting palitations when walking up the stairs. But did nothing for the flutters.

It sounds similar to the paroxysmal atrial fibrillation I get when I've been too stressed for too long. It's generally benign but if an attack goes on for a very long time then it can cause some nasty complications. I was prescribed Flecainide tablets to take if it goes on for more than a few hours - one tablet and within half an hour everything's back to normal.

Any heart arrhythmia is worth getting checked out properly. I'd ask for a referral to a cardiac specialist if I were you.

I get it the same as Moros described. Go back to the GP and ask for a referral,it's better to get it checked.

I have these as well as Ventricular Tachicardia (sp?). Always worth a check. My Cardio always said to me if the flutters or worse during/after exsercise or are causing breathing problems, that they need checking out.
